Phone Photography Contest #69 - When the church door wasn't open for us

Have you ever been so sure about something, only to have reality hit you with a big "oops"? 😆 Well, that’s exactly what happened to my husband and me one sunny morning. We decided to visit a church that was very special to me, a place I used to go when I was little. I thought, "Hey, churches are always open, right?" Spoiler alert - I was wrong. And it was hilarious. 🤣

So, here’s how it went down. My husband and I woke up bright and early one weekend, all pumped to explore a little piece of my childhood. This church, located near the plaza, holds so many memories for me. I thought it would be the perfect spot for us to visit together. After all, what better way to start a day than with a peaceful stroll around a historical church, right?

We arrived right at 10 AM, thinking we were on time for a quiet prayer or just to admire the beautiful old building. We stood in front of the church with our big smiles, ready for some photo ops, but... nothing. No open doors, no welcoming bell, no priest ready to greet us. I thought maybe I was missing something, so I tried the door. Locked 😅. Confused, we peeked around like curious kids trying to figure out what went wrong. My mind was running through all the possibilities..

“Churches open every day, right?” I asked. My husband gave me a side-eye, as if to say, “Really?”
Turns out, not all churches are open all the time. Who knew? 😂

But hey, no biggie.. We ended up taking a few photos in front of the closed church (because what else were we gonna do?) 🤣. The photos looked good, and we had a great laugh about it. We even joked that we came all this way and the church was “having a day off” just like we wished we could.

💖Lesson Time

It was a small, funny moment, but it actually taught me something important.. Sometimes things don’t go as planned, and that’s okay. Life has a way of surprising us, and even in moments of confusion, there’s always something to enjoy,, whether it’s a laugh or just appreciating the journey. Sometimes, the best memories come from the little mishaps, like a closed door that turns into a funny story. 😆

So, here’s to more spontaneous adventures and laughter, even when things don't go exactly as we imagine..

Even after all your efforts, you did not get a chance to go inside the church, but whatever photos you took are good, and after reading your story it seems that you both had some fun, I mean this will also be remembered. 😅

I don't specifically know about churches, but it happens in temples that small temples in a particular area have a fixed time for opening and mostly they remain closed in the afternoon and night obviously. But big and old temples often remain open the whole day and night because devotees from far off places visit there, so their doors are never closed.
So it is possible that something like this happens in churches as well, after all they are all God's house. :)

That's what I thought, too. Since this church was old and part of the City's history, I thought it would be open early and until the evening because people from different places would be visiting it. well, I guess I was wrong..
For sure, this moment would be remembered, forever 😆

Have a great day @untilwelearn
