The Cats in My Building

Hello community, in the building where I've been living for two years, I was surprised by some very special inhabitants: the cats. I've counted more than 15 of them, who found a makeshift home around the building. They don't have an owner, but they've grown accustomed to living in the neighborhood and survive thanks to the leftover food that neighbors often leave for them.

Despite being street cats, they have their own distinct personality. Some are bolder and approach fearlessly, while others prefer to observe from a distance and disappear at the slightest movement or approach.

I like to think they form a feline community within our own. Sometimes I hear the meows of babies born in hiding places, and I've also observed that kind-hearted people have adopted many of them and brought them into their homes as pets. Today, since I'm on vacation, I decided to photograph some and share them here. I confess it wasn't easy, as as soon as they see me, they run away and hide, so I think I'll have to keep trying another day. It's incredible to see how, even without comfort or constant care, they manage to adapt and keep going. Their gaze conveys freedom, but also a reminder that they need affection and protection.

Between their games, fights, and moments of rest, they have become part of the building's identity. The neighbors have grown accustomed to their presence. Some even feed them affectionately. At dusk, it's common to see them gather in small groups, as if sharing with each other. The curiosity in their eyes, the cunning, allows them to find the strength to continue.

I'm signing off after sharing these photos with you, as a small tribute to this feline colony. At least they found a safe place to rest here, and perhaps, one day, a human heart willing to give them a real home like the one they all deserve.
