Conociendo "Plaza Quetepe": Sentimiento y Cultura Sucrense[Esp-Eng]
Es un placer compartir mi visita a la Plaza Quetepe. Nunca antes había estado en esta plaza, pero había escuchado mencionarla durante las celebraciones del aniversario de la ciudad. Se encuentra detrás de la calle Badaraco-Bermúdez, y en la entrada hay una placa que indica que fue donada por Domingo y Francia a los residentes del sector San Francisco. Este es considerado el primer barrio de Latinoamérica y el punto de partida para la fundación de Cumaná como la primera ciudad del continente americano. A su alrededor se construyeron diversas estructuras para la fundación de esta importante ciudad, marcada por significativos acontecimientos históricos y levantamientos de grupos indígenas que se opusieron a la corona española. San Francisco, situada en una zona elevada, conecta con importantes puntos de interés de la ciudad, como el convento del mismo nombre, varias plazas y calles coloniales con sus respectivas casas, que incluso después de tantos años aún guardan interesantes historias que contar.
En la entrada hay una escalera con líneas azules y en la fachada muros beige muy similares a los del castillo de San Antonio de la Eminencia junto a la plaza hay varias casas de origen colonial, la mayoría han sido reparadas pero conservan su diseño original y frente una calle estrecha que conduce a la parte baja del sector, la plaza está delimitada por un muro azul que la bordea lateralmente una sección en la fachada y luego el muro beige.
It's a pleasure to share my visit to Quetepe Square. I had never been to this square before, but I had heard its name mentioned during the city's anniversary celebrations. It's located behind Badaraco-Bermúdez Street, and at the entrance, there's an epitaph stating that it was donated by Domingo and Francia to the residents of the San Francisco sector. This is considered the first neighborhood in Latin America and the starting point for the establishment of Cumaná as the first city on the American continent. Around it, various structures were built for the founding of this important city, marked by significant historical events and uprisings by indigenous groups who opposed the Spanish crown. San Francisco, situated in an elevated area, connects with important points of interest in the city, such as the convent of the same name, several squares, and colonial streets with their respective houses, which even after many years still hold interesting stories to tell.
At the entrance there is a staircase with blue lines and at the front beige walls very similar to those of the San Antonio de la Eminencia castle next to the square there are several houses of colonial origin, most have been repaired but retain their original design and in front a narrow street that leads to the lower part of the sector, the square is delimited by a blue wall that borders it laterally a section at the front and then the beige wall.
Una vez en la plaza, me llamó la atención un hermoso mural al fondo, varias plantas y el muro perimetral decorado en la parte superior con ladrillos. En otra vista, se aprecia el muro con la pintura al fondo y una cancha de baloncesto. Se distinguen las líneas, tanto las ya marcadas como las pintadas, y desde este muro se tiene una buena perspectiva para observar parte del barrio de San Francisco y algunas casas ubicadas al frente y abajo.
En otra vista, se ve la plaza, su muro, el jardín, varias casas a su alrededor y una casa llamativa que me llamó la atención por estar ubicada junto a la plaza. Es verde y las jardineras tienen forma de U, integradas con un muro azul, similar a las que delimitan la plaza. En otra vista, se aprecia la casa, parte de los muros y la cancha. Esta cancha también resulta curiosa porque solo tiene un aro de baloncesto. El día de mi visita, varios jóvenes estaban jugando y solo pude fotografiar esta parte. El hecho de que la cancha solo tenga un aro son dignos de mención y asombro.
Once in the plaza, I noticed a beautiful mural at the back, several plants, and the perimeter wall decorated at the top with brickwork. You can see the lines and the painted lines, and from this wall, it's a good vantage point to observe part of the San Francisco neighborhood and some houses located in front and below.

On the day of my visit, several young people were playing, and I was only able to take pictures of this part. En las casas quedan frente a la plaza, se encuentran varios murales muy coloridos que ofrecen una vista parcial de la plaza y sus alrededores. Los murales también representan eventos importantes de la historia de la ciudad, como un encuentro cercano entre plebeyos y una vista de Quetepe al amanecer. Este último mural hace referencia al sector de Quetepe, ubicado en el camino a Carúpano, donde se encuentra una hermosa playa del mismo nombre.
Entre las pinturas, destaca una llamada "El Templo del Parnaso", de color rosa, que muestra a varias personas asistiendo a una ceremonia. En una esquina, hay una hermosa pintura que representa a las niñeras de Simón Bolívar sentadas, con el futuro Libertador a su lado. In the houses facing the plaza, there are several very colorful murals, offering a partial view of the plaza and its surroundings. The murals also depict important events in the city's history, such as a close encounter between commoners and a view of Quetepe at dawn. This last mural refers to the Quetepe sector, located on the road to Carúpano, where a beautiful beach of the same name is situated.
Among the paintings, there is one called "The Temple of Parnassus," which is pink and shows several people attending a service. In the corner, there is a beautiful painting depicting Simón Bolívar's nannies seated, with the future Liberator beside them. In the background is a yellow colonial-style house with its numerous windows and doors and characteristic pyramidal tile roof. The last painting represents the sunset of the celestial city, with a beautiful path rising towards the sky, decorated with columns and striking buildings.
