I visited Expo Joven and walked around Plaza San Martín | Enjoying a warm afternoon in San Justo, Buenos Aires

I had found out a little late about an event that would take place in Plaza San Martín, in the town of San Justo, Buenos Aires. This event would be divided into two parts, although I was only able to attend the second part. The first part featured Plaza Ciencia 2024, which in short was about bringing the community the latest science and technology projects from various schools in the district.

In the second part, we would meet Expo Joven 2024, which is the one I attended. On this occasion, different proposals from university students and some higher education institutions would be presented to us.

Me había enterado un poco tarde sobre un evento que harían en la Plaza San Martín, en la localidad de San Justo, Buenos Aires. Este evento estaría dividido en dos partes, aunque solo he podido asistir a la segunda. En la primer parte estaba Plaza Ciencia 2024, que en resumidas cuentas trataba sobre acercar a la comunidad los últimos proyectos en ciencia y tecnología de distintas escuelas del distrito.

En la segunda parte nos encontraríamos con Expo Joven 2024, que es a la que asistí. En esta ocasión, se nos presentarían distintas propuestas de jóvenes universitarios y algunas instituciones superiores.

Despite arriving just on time, there were still many people at the location. I was surprised to see that there were families of all ages, signifying an event very suitable for different families to have a great day.

In my case, it was very good for me to visit this exhibition, to change things up a bit from the days that sometimes become quite monotonous. That said, I would have liked to find out a little earlier to attend the first part, which is the one that really interested me more because it was purely and exclusively about technology.

A pesar de haber llegado justo a tiempo, aún había mucha gente en el lugar. Me sorprendió que habían familias de todas las edades, significando un evento muy apropiado para que distintas familias pasen un día genial.

En mi caso me vino muy bien visitar esta exposición, para variar un poco de los días que algunas veces suelen volverse muy monótonos. Eso sí, me hubiese gustado enterarme un poco antes para poder asistir a la primer parte, que es la que realmente me interesaba más por ser pura y exclusivamente sobre tecnología.

In one of the art sections there was also something related to social issues. The truth is that I found the message these students had given to be powerful. This part was focused on highlighting the dark history of Argentina, such as the military dictatorship that led to a coup in 1976.

Right next to the room for remembrance and justice, there was a room where the students managed to faithfully depict a scene of what happened. A very well-recreated work in my opinion, although somewhat disturbing, especially if you don't see the previous room first to have some context.

En uno de los sectores de arte también había algo relacionado al carácter social. Lo cierto es que me pareció impactante el mensaje que habían dado estos estudiantes. Esta parte estaba enfocada en visibilizar la historia oscura de la argentina, como lo fue la dictadura militar que llevó a un golpe de estado en 1976.

Justo al lado de la sala de pedido de memoria y justicia había una habitación en la que los estudiantes lograron manifestar fielmente una escena sobre lo sucedido. Un trabajo muy bien recreado en mi opinión, aunque un tanto perturbador, sobre todo si no ves antes la anterior sala para tener algún que otro contexto.

What struck me as spectacular was that there was a dedicated gaming area. There, one could find a large concentration of people wanting to play. There were some retro games and others much more current. There was also a section that was for Formula 1 racing games, which undoubtedly offered doses of fun.

It seems like they were very excited while playing, as I stayed for a good amount of time watching them play and no one seemed to be leaving the booth.

Lo que me pareció espectacular es que había una zona dedicado al gaming. Allí se podía encontrar una gran concentración de personas queriendo jugar. Había algunos juegos retro y otros mucho más actuales. También había un sector que era de juegos de automovilismo de fórmula 1, que sin dudas ofrecía dosis de diversión.

Al parecer estaban muy entusiasmados jugando, ya que me quedé un buen tiempo viendo como jugaban y nadie parecía abandonar el puesto.

One of the areas that caught my attention was this one that was like a radio where things were discussed that I haven't paid too much attention to. Supposedly they were well-known figures, except to me haha. You could hear them talking there or while one was walking around the place and they planned to invite a DJ as the event's closing act.

Una de las zonas que me llamó la atención fue esta que era como una radio en la que se debatían cosas a las que no le he prestado demasiada atención. Supuestamente eran figuras reconocidas, menos por mí jaja. Se podía escucharlos hablar allí o mientras uno iba caminando por el lugar y tenían planeado invitar a un DJ como cierre al evento.

After feeling comfortable after visiting the event, I started walking around the square, with the purpose of taking some photographs. And as expected, I found myself needing to take a picture of the statue of San Martin riding his horse.

The good weather and sunlight did their part to have these magnificent images. It is worth mentioning that the square has been restored, it used to have a quite different appearance than it does now. It looks much more organized and clean than it was at some point when it was neglected.

Luego de sentirme a gusto tras visitar el evento, me puse a recorrer un poco la plaza, con el motivo de hacer algunas fotografías. Y como era de esperarse, me vi en la necesidad de tomar una fotografía de la estatua de San Martín montado en su caballo.

El buen clima y la luz solar hicieron lo suyo para tener estas magníficas imágenes. Cabe decir que la plaza la han restaurado, antes tenía un aspecto bastante diferente al actual. Se ve mucho más ordenada y limpia que lo que fue alguna vez en que se la descuidó mucho.

As the sunset is extending a little longer being in spring, there were still many people enjoying the day. The square was quite crowded and during my walk I found a monument for the fallen in the Malvinas Islands. Very impressive.

Also around the square there were food stalls of all kinds. The aroma that could be felt was very attractive. There was also a dessert stand that looked really exquisite.

Como el atardecer se está extendiendo un poco más por estar en primavera, aún había mucha gente disfrutando del día. La plaza estaba bastante llena y en mi recorrido encontré un monumento por los caídos en las Islas Malvinas. Muy impresionante.

También por los alrededores de la plaza habían puestos de comida de todo tipo. El aroma que se podía sentir era muy atractivo. También había un puesto de postres que se veían realmente exquisitos.

The truth is that it has been a very nice afternoon, witnessing an event that has its interesting things, even though I missed the earlier part. But I was able to make up for it somehow by walking around the square and its surroundings. It was a day I could enjoy a lot.

I used to come to this square with my parents during my adolescence, even much earlier. It has changed a lot but in a favorable way. It may possibly be the new center of attraction in the next opportunities that arise, or at least a meeting point to consider.

La verdad que ha sido una tarde muy linda, presenciando un evento que tiene sus cosas interesantes, más allá de haberme perdido la anterior parte. Pero lo pude compensar de alguna forma recorriendo la plaza y sus alrededores. Fue un día pude disfrutar un montón.

A esta plaza venía con mis padres en mi adolescencia, incluso mucho antes. Ha cambiado mucho pero de manera favorable. Posiblemente sea el nuevo centro de atracción en las próximas oportunidades que se den, o al menos un punto de encuentro al que considerar.
