El otro día tuve que ir a la universidad a dar un final y me encontré de paso una exhibición de pinturas hechas por alumnos de arte. Lo que me llamó más la atención fue que parecía ser de un estilo que me logra cautivar, que es el arte gótico, o al menos se le acerca a eso.

Decidí disfrutar de las pinturas y tomar algunas fotografías para compartirles a ustedes. Me parece que esta vez hicieron un buen trabajo, ya que no solo se trata de una pintura con los trazos y técnicas habituales, sino que también agregaron telas para hacer un relieve que resulta interesante a la vista; causa de atracción total al amante del arte y las pinturas.

Esta vez no tomé muchas fotografías, porque podría agotar un poco mostrarlas todas, pero solo estas eran góticas; las demás eran otro tipo de arte, que también estaba sobresaliente a la vista de los entusiastas. En lo particular la primera que me gustó mucho fue esta que comparto a continuación, que se trata de una mujer de cabello largo sosteniendo algo que se asemeja a una bola de cristal, que coincidentemente tiene el mismo tono de sus ojos.

The other day I had to go to the university to take a final exam, and while I was there I came across an exhibition of paintings created by art students. What caught my attention most was that the style seemed to be one that really captivates me—Gothic art, or at least something close to it.

I decided to enjoy the paintings and take some photos to share with you. I think they did a great job this time, since it’s not just a painting with the usual strokes and techniques, but they also added fabric to create a relief that’s visually interesting; a total draw for art and painting lovers.

I didn’t take many photos this time, because showing them all might be a bit overwhelming, but only these were Gothic; the others were a different type of art, which was also outstanding in the eyes of enthusiasts. Personally, the first one I really liked was the one I’m sharing below, which depicts a woman with long hair holding something that resembles a crystal ball, which coincidentally matches the color of her eyes.

Había mencionado el uso de telas, así que esta sería la representación de un buen uso sobre una de las pinturas. El nivel de detalle es majestuoso y mínimamente nos podríamos poner a pensar que se trata de una mujer en la etapa más notoria de la época griega. Tal vez me equivoque, pero es es lo de menos, lo importante es disfrutar la pintura que se nos exhibe. La elección de la paleta de colores es cuanto menos exquisita, haciendo un gran espectáculo visual a quien se le acerque a la pintura.

I had mentioned the use of fabrics, so this would be an example of their effective use in one of the paintings. The level of detail is magnificent, and one might even begin to think that this depicts a woman from the most prominent period of Greek history. I may be wrong, but that’s beside the point; what matters is enjoying the painting on display. The choice of color palette is exquisite, to say the least, creating a stunning visual spectacle for anyone who approaches the painting.

La siguiente que le sigue es una de mis favoritas porque toca directamente lo gótico. Tal como lo veríamos en alguna trama oscura donde siempre aparecen cuervos y calaveras. Por alguna razón siento que la pintura intenta balancear la muerte con la vida, lo digo por las flores que no parecen estar marchitas y a punto de caerse. Aún así, el tono de colores es el correcto para este tipo de pinturas que ofrecen paz pero también inquietud; aunque eso sí, igualmente son dignas de admirar.

The next one is one of my favorites because it taps directly into the Gothic aesthetic. It’s just like something you’d see in a dark story where ravens and skulls are always present. For some reason, I feel like the painting tries to balance death with life—I say this because the flowers don’t look wilted or about to fall off. Still, the color palette is just right for this type of painting, which offers both peace and unease; though, of course, they’re still worth admiring.

Esta es un tanto difícil de entender, pero transmite mucho de la anterior. Es increíble como se juega con los tonos de la pintura, sobre todo aprovechando la oscuridad del entorno para camuflar al gato, que logra resaltar apenas por sus ojos y unos suaves trazos que son producto de algún tipo de reflejo. Nuevamente la tela juega un papel importante, haciendo que ese roce sobre la piel se transmita de una manera difícil de explicar. Resulta un tipo de pintura digna de admirar realmente.

This one is a bit difficult to grasp, but it conveys much of what the previous one did. It’s incredible how the artist plays with the painting’s tones, especially by using the darkness of the surroundings to camouflage the cat, which stands out only slightly through its eyes and a few soft strokes created by some kind of reflection. Once again, the canvas plays an important role, conveying that sensation of the fabric brushing against the skin in a way that’s hard to explain. It is truly a type of painting worthy of admiration.

Finalmente esta es una pintura que sigue los lineamientos de las demás, pero que se logra centrar en la arquitectura. No podía faltar algo que nos haga plantear qué tipo de lugares se frecuentaban en otros años, por lo que esta pieza pudo haber sido testigo de grandes y oscuros momentos. Los colores lo dicen todo, pero precisar emociones es nuestra tarea.

Ultimately, this is a painting that follows the same style as the others, but manages to focus on the architecture. It would be remiss not to include something that makes us wonder what kinds of places people frequented in years past, so this piece may well have witnessed both grand and dark moments. The colors say it all, but it’s up to us to interpret the emotions.

Creo que estas pinturas están muy bien logradas y que renueva la forma en que logramos analizar cada trazo y técnica habida hasta el día de hoy. Los jóvenes la mantienen y se nos expone una forma de disfrutar de lo que el ser humano puede lograr con un trazo de tinta y mucho ingenio.

A veces me planteo qué tanto talento hay en el mundo; es por esta razón que existen una gran cantidad de exhibiciones. Son la oportunidad de resaltar al artista su arte y habilidad.

I believe these paintings are exceptionally well executed and offer a fresh perspective on how we analyze every stroke and technique used to date. Young artists are carrying on this tradition, and they show us a way to appreciate what human beings can achieve with a stroke of ink and a great deal of ingenuity.

Sometimes I wonder just how much talent there is in the world; that is why there are so many exhibitions. They are an opportunity to highlight the artist, their art, and their skill.
