In Search of Urban Art [ES/EN]

A few days before New Year's Eve, I decided I wanted to make some lifestyle changes. I could simply wait, but nothing would ensure that I would fulfill my New Year's resolutions.

That's why from now on I set out to do everything I could to give my life more variety. I started by getting out and about in my city and going a little further afield. I thought it would be nice to share with you some urban art, although the truth is that my steps took me to another place, which in principle, I had no interest in visiting.

Also between my steps I could pass by places that seemed interesting to me, because their construction gave me a feeling of interest, so they would be candidates for a good photograph. Although I only write literature and have rarely taken on this other role, I must admit that I was fascinated by this art, which I am sure many will enjoy.

A pocos días de la víspera de Año Nuevo decidí que quería hacer unos cambios en mi estilo de vida. Podría simplemente esperar, pero nada me aseguraría cumplir con mis propósitos para ese nuevo año.

Es por ello que desde ahora me dispuse a hacer todo lo posible para darle más variedad a mi vida. Comencé por salir a recorrer mi ciudad e ir un poco más allá. Pensé en que estaría bien compartir con ustedes un poco de arte urbano, aunque lo cierto es que mis pasos me llevaron hacia otro lugar, que en principio, no tenía interés alguno de visitar.

También entre mis pasos pude pasar por lugares que me parecieron interesantes, pues su construcción me hacía llegar un sentimiento de interés, por lo que serían candidatos a una buena fotografía. Si bien sólo escribo literatura y pocas veces he tomado este otro rol, debo admitir que sentí fascinación por este arte, que seguramente muchos disfrutarán.

I had not taken the time to observe the places hidden in my city. I mention the word hide because I always passed in haste ignoring everything around me and never stopped for a moment to admire its buildings and the people who frequented there.

In this brewery people gather at all hours. At night it seems to be a spectacle, because it is full of people having a good time with their friends or maybe people who are about to meet their next love. Anyway, this place always caught my attention.

No me había puesto a observar los lugares que ocultaba mi ciudad. Menciono la palabra ocultar porque siempre pasé en el apuro ignorando todo a mi alrededor y nunca me detuve por un momento a admirar sus construcciones y la gente que frecuentaba allí.

En esta cervecería la gente se reúne a toda hora. De noche parece ser un espectáculo, pues está colmada de gente pasando un buen rato con sus amigos o tal vez personas que están por conocer su próximo amor. Así sea, siempre me llamó la atención este lugar.

On that same street, on that corner, we can observe a tavern, if we can call it that. There people gather to drink beers and other alcohol based snacks, but they can also play pool games having a nice time. There is also an ice cream parlor (Gelato) across the street where you can enjoy some good ice cream.

En esa misma calle, en aquella esquina, podemos observar una taberna, si así podemos llamarle. Allí la gente se junta a tomar cervezas y otros aperitivos basados en alcohol, pero también pueden jugar a los juegos de billar (pool) pasando un agradable rato. También hay enfrente una heladería (Gelato) en la que se puede disfrutar de unos buenos helados.

But I had to concentrate on what I went to, which was to look for some urban art. As I wandered through the streets I couldn't remember exactly where I had seen a drawing of a witch that I had found quite nice to photograph. I wandered around a few times and maybe even arrived at the same place I started from, but I was able to find that place.

Pero debía concentrarme a lo que fui, que era buscar algo de arte urbano. Al meterme entre las calles no recordaba exactamente donde había visto un dibujo de una bruja que se me había hecho bastante simpática para fotografiar. Di algunas vueltas y hasta quizás llegué al mismo sitio por el que partí, pero pude encontrar ese lugar.

You can see one of the streets I took to take the picture. The weather and the sunlight favored me, because I did not want the image to come out with noise or something strange that could mean a loss of quality, to which I deduced that although I had all the time in the world, at some point the night would fall.

There was another place that is only in my mind, it was also a drawing that I liked at the time I saw it but I do not remember where it was. Maybe because it is only now that I am really interested in them and, at the time, they went unnoticed.

Se puede ver una de las calles que tomé para sacar la fotografía. El clima y la luz del sol me favorecían, pues no quería que la imagen salga con ruido o alguna cosa extraña que pueda significar una pérdida de calidad, a lo que deduje que si bien tenía todo el tiempo del mundo, en algún momento caería la noche.

Había otro lugar que solo está en mi mente, también era un dibujo que me agradó en el momento en que lo vi pero no recuerdo donde fue. Quizás porque recién ahora es que me interesan realmente y, en su momento, pasaron hasta desapercibidos.

Another photographic shot was on this wall where you can see an Indian with a dream catcher on one side. I tried to capture also who had done it to give credit to its author. In my opinion it is simply magnificent.

Note the detail of the totem made with different animals, which surely have some kind of meaning.

Otra de las tomas fotográficas fue sobre esta pared donde se puede ver un indio con un atrapa sueños a un lado. Intenté capturar también quién lo había hecho para darle crédito a su autor. En mi opinión es simplemente magnífico.

Observen el detalle del tótem hecho con diferentes animales, los cuales seguramente tengan algún tipo de significado.

I had already gone a little off my route since I saw a sign in the distance that said that 300 meters away there was a shopping mall. I remember visiting it more than a decade ago, maybe when I was a teenager. I was surprised by how empty and unexplored the place was.

Well, as far as I remember it was not like that, something had happened but I never knew what. When we think of a shopping mall we imagine it with a crowd of people anxious to enter either for shopping or for a family stroll.

This is simply a photograph of one of the sides of the mall. Perhaps they are warehouses or parking lots, although I doubt the latter.

Ya me había salido un poco de mi ruta desde que vi a lo lejos un cartel que decía que a 300 metros había un shopping. Recuerdo haberlo visitado hace más de una década atrás, quizás cuando era adolescente. Me sorprendió lo vacío y poco explorado del lugar.

Pues que yo recuerde no era así, algo había sucedido pero nunca supe qué. Cuando pensamos en un shopping lo imaginamos con una multitud de personas ansiosas por entrar ya sea de compras como para pasear un rato en familia.

Esta es simplemente una fotografía de uno de los costados del shopping. Quizás sean depósitos o estacionamientos, aunque dudo de esta última opción.

One of the fronts of the shopping mall, although it looks more like the entrance to a discotheque. You can see one of the signs that says "AVATAR" on the billboard.

I honestly thought at that precise moment that they had closed the mall completely, but I glimpsed beyond the real entrance to the place. There were some rappers dancing with their music at the main entrance. Something that I thought was very good, because it seems to me something healthy.

Uno de los frentes del shopping, aunque más se pareciera a una entrada a una discoteca. Puede observarse uno de los letreros que dice estar "AVATAR" en cartelera.

Sinceramente pensé en ese preciso instante que habían cerrado por completo el shopping, pero vislumbré más allá la verdadera entrada al lugar. Habían unos raperos bailando con su música en la entrada principal. Algo que me pareció muy bien, pues se me hace algo sano.

This is another perspective of the entrance. I don't know if you can see it, but further ahead there is a sign that says "Showcase" and that alludes to a movie theater inside this place, which I will show you soon.

I for one do not get carried away by bad impressions, inside the place is much more pleasant and familiar. There are also other renowned stores to visit.

Esta es otra perspectiva de la entrada. No sé si se verá pero más adelante hay un cartel que dice "Showcase" y que hace alusión a un cine dentro de este lugar, que próximamente les mostraré.

Yo por lo menos no me dejo llevar por las malas impresiones, dentro el sitio es mucho más agradable y familiar. También hay otras tiendas de renombre para visitar.

It seemed to me that they were already closing, but it was not as late as I thought. I remember that the time I visited the place it was also as empty as this day. I have visited many shopping malls but none like this one. Luckily I didn't find any ghosts hahaha.

Me pareció que ya iban a cerrar, pero no era tan tarde como pensaba. Recuerdo que aquella vez que visité el lugar también estaba tan vacío como este día. He visitado muchos shoppings pero como este ninguno. Por suerte no he encontrado ningún fantasma jajaja.

I walked through the aisles of the mall until I saw a children's playground. I was impressed that it was practically empty, because in my memory when I was in my first years of life places like that were almost full, although I admit that, as the years went by, these places were less and less visited.

Maybe I am wrong and this phenomenon is because here in Argentina we are on vacation, so to speak. Many people have gone on a massive family trip to the coasts of the country. Maybe that is the cause of the unknown.

Caminé por los pasillos del shopping hasta que vi un lugar de juegos para niños. Me impresionó que estuviese prácticamente vacío, pues en mi memoria cuando tenía mis primeros años de vida los lugares así estaban casi llenos, aunque admito que, con el paso de los años, estos lugares eran cada vez menos visitados.

Quizás me equivoque y este fenómeno se trate de que aquí en Argentina estamos de vacaciones, por así decirlo. Mucha gente se ha ido de viaje en familia a las costas del país en forma masiva. Quizás sea esa la causa a la incógnita.

I liked this picture a lot, because it shows the lack of knowledge of a place I didn't dare to go down. Supposedly those stairs lead to the parking lot, but seeing no one, I preferred to stay on the surface of the mall. For a moment the image of the video game "Silent Hill" crossed my mind, although it's just my own madness 🤣

Esta fotografía me gustó bastante, porque encierra el desconocimiento de un lugar al que no me atreví a bajar. Supuestamente esas escaleras llevan al estacionamiento, pero al no ver a nadie, preferí quedarme en la superficie del shopping. Por un momento se me cruzó por la mente la imagen del videojuego "Silent Hill", aunque solo es locura mía 🤣

It seemed that I had arrived at the food court. There were a couple of hamburger places and this one with ice cream. We can see the Argentinean flag present after the victory of the national team.

I think I only tried one of those ice cream juices once. In my opinion, the taste is gone very quickly, leaving only the ice. But yes, I would try them again, they are delicious.

Parecía ser que había llegado al patio de comidas. Pues había un par de locales de hamburguesas y este otro de helados. Podemos ver la bandera argentina presente luego de la victoria de la selección.

Creo que una sola vez probé uno de esos jugos helados. En mi opinión se les va muy rápido el gusto, quedando solamente el hielo. Pero sí, volvería a probar, son deliciosos.

This is the entrance to the movie theater. Remember when I mentioned about the "Showcase"? This is what I was referring to. I'm not sure if the updated movie listings will be in there or if it's the one we saw outside.

What is certain is that here you will certainly be able to see a movie without someone walking by the big screen or talking out loud.

Esta es la entrada al cine. ¿Recuerdan cuando les mencioné sobre el "Showcase"? A esto me refería. No sé bien si la cartelera de películas actualizada estará ahí dentro o es la que vimos afuera.

Lo cierto es que aquí con seguridad se podrá ver una película sin que alguien pase por la pantalla grande o hable en voz alta.

As we were leaving the mall, I realized that it was also a good idea to take a picture in urban style. Nothing better than a big sign.

This last place allowed me to see the underground part, which is exactly where the parking lot was. I didn't want to look for fear of being told something, so I left while the night was falling on my steps watching the beginning of the sunset.

Ya saliendo del shopping noté que también era buena idea tomar una fotografía al estilo urbano. Nada mejor que un gran letrero.

Este último lugar me permitía ver la parte del subsuelo, que es justamente donde estaba el estacionamiento. No quise mirar por miedo a que me digan algo, así que me fui mientras caía la noche sobre mis pasos mirando el principio del ocaso.
