Roger Lancelyn Green's Children Books On Mythology, Folklore, And History

Hello there, fellow HIVE users and subscribers of the HIVE Book Club community! For today's first post here on this community, I decided to write a bit about Roger Lancelyn Green's books which I read and which I think are some of the best of their kind in the genre of mythology, folklore, and history.

For those who don't know yet, Roger Lancelyn Green was an English writer who was part of the famous Inklings literary group alongside renowned authors C.S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien. He was a good friend of C. S. Lewis and even encouraged him to publish The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 1950.

Some of his most notable books include The Adventures of Robin Hood, King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table, Myths of the Norsemen, Tales of Ancient Egypt, or Tales of the Greek Heroes and The Tale of Troy.

Although the aforementioned titles are labeled mainly as children's books, I also decided to include them in genres of mythology, folklore, and history given the fact that this is basically what they are about.

I originally discovered these books in Romanian throughout the pandemic period, looking for good titles to enjoy reading and I was pleasantly surprised and well entertained in literary regards, if I may express myself as such.

The original book titles and their frontal covers look like this if you search for them on Amazon. So far, I managed to finish the books on the Ancient Greeks and their mythology, the Ancient Egyptians and their mythology as well as the Norsemen and their mythology. I am currently reading the book on King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and, afterwards, when I'll finish it, the next stop will inevitably be Robin Hood (when I was a kid I read the version by Henry Gilbert and so I'd like to know what sets it apart from it).

That being said, I would very much like to know whether you already know these books, this great author, or if you'd like to discover him after this article if I managed to captivate your interest for a while. Kindly let me know in the comments' section below. I am very much looking forward to your response and I truly hope they will be positive.

Thank you very much for your time, readership, and attention here on HIVE! It means a lot to me! All the best, take care, stay safe, and have an excellent autumn along with your dear ones and your books!

P.S.: So far, all of the aforementioned literary titles in this post are my favourite from Roger Lancelyn Green's works. I cannot only select one and so I decided to pick them all on the same level. 🙂
