Die mittelalterliche Festung "Zarevez" (Царевец) befindet sich in Veliko Tarnovo, einer historischen Stadt im Norden von Bulgarien, nördlich des Balkangebirges, die im Mittelalter die Hauptstadt (12-14 Jhd.) des Zweiten Bulgarischen Reiches war.

Die Festung wurde später von den Türken erobert und niedergebrannt und erst im 20. Jahrhundert teilweise als Museum wiederaufgebaut.

Eine Sehenswürdigkeit der Festungsanlage ist die rekonstruierte Patriachatskirche am Gipfel des Hügels, die von der Volksrepublik Bulgarien während der Sovietzeit zu einem modernen Museum umgestaltet wurde.

Moderne Wandmalereien von Teofan Sokerov stellen dramatische Momente der bulgarischen Geschichte dar.

The medieval fortress "Tsarevets" (Царевец) is located in Veliko Tarnovo, a historical town in the north of Bulgaria, north of the Balkan Mountains, which was the capital (12-14 century) of the Second Bulgarian Empire in the Middle Ages.

The fortress was later conquered and burned down by the Turks and was partially rebuilt as a museum in the 20th century.

One of the sights of the fortress complex is the reconstructed Patriarchal Church at the top of the hill, which was converted into a modern museum by the People's Republic of Bulgaria during the Soviet era.

Modern paintings by Teofan Sokerov depict dramatic moments in Bulgarian medieval history.

It was a terrible place, where torture and death penalty were carried out. Very good photography
