Im Stadtzentrum von Burgas gibt es immer noch einige sovietische Gebäude und Denkmäler.

Zentral sichtbar ist die Alyosha-Statue, die an die Befreiung Bulgariens durch die sovietische Armee im zweiten Weltkrieg gedenken soll.

Die Aufschrift ist nicht mehr gut lesbar und lautet "вечна признателност", was übersetzt ewige Dankbarkeit, Anerkennung bedeutet.

Aloyasha Skurlatov, das Vorbild für die Statue, war übrigens ein Soldat der 3. Ukrainischen Front der Roten Armee in der Ukraine.

Seit dem Ukraine-Krieg gibt es im NATO-Land Bulgarien auch neue Bestrebungen die verbliebenen Soviet-Denkmäler zu beseitigen.

In Sofia wurde mit einem vorgeschobenen Argument und unter Protesten das Denkmal der Roten Armee entfernt. Es würde verfallen und wäre nicht mehr sicher. In Burgas hingegen, sind sie noch allgegenwärtig.

Was sagt ihr dazu? Denkt ihr, man sollte historische Denkmäler entfernen oder bewahren?

There are still several Soviet buildings and monuments in the city center of Burgas in Bulgaria.

Centrally visible is the Alyosha statue, which commemorates the liberation of Bulgaria by the Soviet army during the Second World War.

The inscription is no longer well legible and reads “вечна признателност”, which translates as eternal gratitude, recognition.

Incidentally, Aloyasha Skurlatov, the model for the statue, was a soldier of the 3rd Ukrainian Front of the Red Army in Ukraine.

Since the war in Ukraine, there have also been new efforts to remove the remaining Soviet monuments in the NATO country of Bulgaria.

In Sofia, the Red Army monument was removed with a pretextual argument and amid protests. It would fall into disrepair and would no longer be safe. In Burgas, on the other hand, they still stand.

In Burgas und am Sonnenstrand war ich auch mal, ist aber schon eine zeitlang her.

Monuments are to be preserved if its historical background is a thing of pride and joy but if it's all about pain and bloodshed, it's not worth preserving.

Da gefällt mir das am Schwarzenbergplatz eindeutig besser.
Natürlich sollten sie bewahrt werden für zuküntige Generationen.

I think they should be preserved no matter which side it is. It's a part of history and you can always use it to teach what isn't great. Destroying or removing it doesn't seem to help much.

Nur dumme Leute versuchen die Vergangenheit zu ändern. Das gilt auch für Denkmäler.
