William Ewart Gladstone (1809-1898) war zuletzt von 1892 bis 1894 Premierminister von UK, insgesamt 12 Jahre über 4 nicht durchgehende Perioden.
Obwohl er in Liverpool (England) geboren wurde, war Gladstone schottischer Abstammung. Seine Eltern waren Schotten, daher vermutlich auch das Denkmal in Edinburgh.

This monument is dedicated to William Ewart Gladstone (1809-1898), who was Prime Minister of the UK last from 1892 to 1894, in total for 12 years over 4 non-continuous periods.
Although he was born in Liverpool (England), Gladstone was of Scottish descent. His parents were Scottish, hence the monument in Edinburgh.

It's nice to see someone this type of history. I guess he must have been a decent Prime Minister if people kept going back to vote for him.
They have neglected the monument a little.
I didn't know much about them before, but after your post I found out and my knowledge has increased considerably.
