Gray Petaltail Dragonfly in Marquette, Michigan - Mini Beasts
This fine mini beast, @emberskydragon found as she wandered about the park in Marquette.
I love this shot because you almost can't see the dragonfly at all. We researched it and believe it to be a Gray Petaltail Dragonfly (tachopteryx thoreyi).
Then, my daughter, the animal whisperer, persuaded the creature to sit on the sleeve of her (embarrassingly dirty) hoodie.
This dragonfly is considered one of the most ancient of species, its similar ancestors flew around the dinosaurs - and even occupies its own genus.
