Cargo Action at O'Hare - Travel Photography
While waiting at Chicago O'Hare for our flight to Stockholm, we watched several cargo flights come in for Japan Airlines (JAL). This time, I documented the event.
Here, the Boeing 787 comes in, directed by the guy at the bottom right - so tiny compared to this giant hunk of metal.
After pulling into the correct spot at the gate, the work begins. All the machinery gets going to unload and reload this huge hulk as quickly as possible.
There are many packages bundled into large pallets that have to come out via the "scissors" - presumably named for the criss-cross manner of operation - similar to a pair of scissors.
One type of pallet unloaded, large shiny containers follow, a completely different design. I'm not sure what the difference is, but the airport is obviously prepared in the form of a completely different kind of machine.
A land train, of sorts, pulls along side to receive each of these big shiny containers, one to trailer. Some even need guidance from the ground crew.
It was good to watch this happen as it gave some much-needed amusement to while away the hours at Chicago.
