Afternoon in Escanaba - Marvelous Michigan
Having heard that they were to have Fourth of July fireworks that night - on the 2nd - we headed into Escanaba (pronounced ess-cah-NAW-bah) and looked around a bit.
We parked near Ludington Park, hoping to have a decent spot for the fireworks - and a reasonably easy exit afterwards.
There are lots of informational signs there - helping you tap into the town's history.
Another interesting sign... The men mentioned here gave their names to places like Houghton, Michigan and Washburn, Wisconsin.
This fountain was dedicated in 1961 to war veterans.
The setting sun gave a nice glow to it.
The House of Ludington hotel appears to be haunted... indeed, there are plenty of rumors regarding it. Nice building, regardless.
Back at the park, I couldn't resist looking up to capture these flag images. It was Independence Day weekend after all!
Sand Point Lighthouse...
Late afternoon
Information is always good. Decades of history condensed into a single paragraph... But I appreciate it - makes everything make more sense.
Another view of the lighthouse as the sun sets.
Looking across Little Bay de Noc as the sun sets... soon, the fireworks can begin.
In the end, the fireworks started at ten o'clock... but in slow motion. One firework, then the next about 4 minutes later... then another long gap... After about four of these, we decided to cut bait and head on back to the campground.
