Freelensing for better perception (experimental photography).
Good evening – Добрый вечер – ערב טוב – Buenas noches – Добрий вечір – Қайырлы кеш !!! Long time no see you!
I’m not a professional writer, and finally not a writer at all. Photography is my calling and it’s what i will try represent here as best as possible for me.
Today i would like to talk about FREELENSING. Those who are already familiar with this term will not find anything new in this post. Those who are still not familiar - welcome to the world of the dizziness. Don’t rub your eyes, your vision is obviously fine.
I represent my perception as a normal muscle that I should train from time to time. I find that different photography exercises and experiments can do this work very well for me.
For freelensing i love to use Asahi fully manual 50mm f/1.4 M42 lens. M42 bayonet is great for freelensing because of suitable distance between the rear glass and sensor of the camera, which allows to find and capture very sharp focused fields. The secret is to not attach the lens to the camera body, but rather hold it in your hand very close to the front of the sensor. The effect is stunning: the light leaks violate all the rules of classical photography, the vignetting is natural, and no software can recreate it.
I started from the garden around my living place and moved to the urban areas of Tel Aviv and even portraits of my friends. I got a wonderful feeling that all the usual to me objects acquired absolutely unknown contours and surprising forms.
The only disadvantages of freelensing is danger of entering of a dust to the sensor area and slow focusing process.
The short video clip below i filmed with unattached Asahi 50mm lens during long day session in the deep southern desert of the country:

Hello dear @victorbz friend!!!... It's so good to hear from you! 🙏... And wow, this "freelensing" thing is definitely new to me; I don't think I've ever seen it before 🤔... But these photos look deliciously interesting and "experimental" this way!...
I especially loved seeing this one; there's a beautiful chaos of light in it, there's even a perceptible artistic sensibility!...
I hope you and your loved ones are well. Sending you a big hug and a round of applause!!!!
