A few hours in the old Jaffa port.

Since I was very upset about the technical problems of my favorite pocket Ricoh GRii camera, I started looking for an equivalent. Even one of two broken Ricoh, i got from the repair service fully working, the feeling of how fragile this hardly repairable camera (at least in my country), haunts me all the time.

I started looking for more miniature and sharper lens for my old, but perfectly working Canon 5dmkii. All the brands already moved from the old fashion DSLRs to only mirrorless shutters technology. So, its became impossible to find the Canon EF compatible lens in the local stores. For my luck, the Japanese sellers on eBay ship these used, but mint condition lenses to my country for free. And the price is only half of what it was in stores before the sales discontinue.

A few weeks ago i got for myself this wonderful prime (of course) Canon 28mm (!!!!) 1.8 looks like new lens and immediately took it for a walk.

The day was super dull. And although the sun appeared for a while from behind the low clouds, it happened for very short time, It even started raining after lunch. But for me it was enough time to check the lens, and come to a conclusion about your new purchase.

The port of the old Jaffa was one of the first places, I started taking photos constantly from the first days of using cameras. With the help of photography, i learned don’t be afraid of this place. Years ago old Jaffa wasn’t a quiet place to walk around with a camera, especially during night time. But, seems like i was very lucky, and know about the numerous incidents, broken into cars, stolen property just from people. Actually, my car was broken into, but in other places.

Well, a few words about the place i chose for my photo walk this time. Old Jaffa is an ancient Levantine port city which is part of Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel, located in its southern part. The city sits atop a naturally elevated outcrop on the Mediterranean coastline. As one of the world's oldest ports, it features attractions like the Jaffa Flea Market, Old City, and Ajami neighborhood (from WIKI).

Over the past 20 years, the city has undergone numerous changes. I can see these drastic changes just in my photographs. I don’t know if i love the renewed Jaffa port and the old city around. Once, i enjoyed walking in narrow alleys for hours. At 6 AM and at 23 PM. The original beauty of the old buildings always fascinated me. Everything was broken and rebuilt. New Fashionable hotels replaced the old one-two floors buildings of the locals. And what is survived, will be replaced in the next 3-5 years. Maybe it’s just me and my devotion to original stuff. But what is ORIGINAL. How far do we have to travel in time to find the boundary from which the original is measured? And what about what was before?

This magazine is a series of black and white photographs, taken during the few days of lockdown, which I spent in the village, where I live. Finally, I got free time and the ability to walk around and explore my living place, but I didn't feel the smell of joy. Everywhere I saw these screaming signs of the APOCALYPSE. Everywhere I saw the approaching end of the world. I was the last man standing.
