One of my first experiences as a photographer - Eng/Esp

This photo shoot was one of my first sessions as a photographer and today I want to share it with you and tell you about my experience along the way; since very few photographers talk about their first experiences, mistakes, hazing or hold back from showing their first photo shoots, but I consider that learning is part of life and this involves all professions in the world.
When I did this photo shoot, being one of my first outdoor sessions because I had no experience in studios and I didn’t have the necessary equipment to do the session in a studio room, I decided to meet this model in a very nice park called “Parque Bicentenario” located in Santiago de Chile. We met at 3:30 in the afternoon with the intention of catching the best orange light of the sunset and at the beginning, while we got to know each other, we took a walk through the park and I talked to him about the poses, looks and gestures I was thinking about for his session, with the intention of aligning us and that despite my little experience, everything would go well. This guy, called Vicente, didn’t have much experience as a model either, so that also gave me a bit of security to take control of the moment in order to show him confidence in what we were doing, because I had the theory anyway, even though my experiences were few. However, everything started to flow in a good way and I had previously told him to take some changes of clothes to do the session with different shirts. One of the things I do when I do a photo shoot, is to observe the person very well to take advantage of what stands out the most in his face and Vicente had a very striking golden hair with light eyes, so my goal was to highlight those two things that stood out in him and I looked for a place where I could focus the sun on his face to play a little with light and shadow. All this is trial and error, because when you are improvising and then you get home developing the photos, you see the mistakes and the things you did wrong without being able to do anything, because you can’t go back in time and much less when you have already invested some time of your work and also of the model, besides it doesn’t look very professional to say: the photos didn’t turn out well, see you tomorrow to repeat them? hahaha, you can’t do that, anyway, you have to save some of the photos to justify the price of your session, right? And that’s where photo retouching comes into play and the experience I have in my favor as a designer because thanks to knowing the right tools to retouch, is where I can calm down a bit to deliver a set of photos with editing and that the model is satisfied with the time and money invested. The important thing, in this case, is to take as many photos as possible and from various angles, without thinking too much, adjusting the ISO and diaphragm and above all, avoiding overexposure, because an underexposed photo can be lightened, but an overexposed photo is completely lost. Therefore, having these points clear, you can play manually with your camera and in each shot, adjust the aperture and ISO which are the pixels of a photograph, that is: the lower the ISO (100) the less noise your photo will have. But, theory is not everything, to be a good photographer you need many years of experience and although the road has been long and I have learned a lot, I feel that I still have a lot to learn.
I also document this photo shoot in Hive, so that there is evidence of my process as a photographer in my life, with the intention of sharing it with you and in turn, motivate you to achieve what you want and dream.

Esta sesión fotográfica fue una de mis primeras sesiones como fotógrafa y hoy quiero compartirla con ustedes y contarles mi experiencia a lo largo del camino; ya que muy pocos fotógrafos hablan de sus primeras experiencias, errores, novatadas o se reprimen a mostrar sus primeras sesiones fotográficas, pero considero que el aprendizaje es parte de la vida y esto conlleva todas las profesiones de mundo.
Cuando realicé esta sesión fotográfica, siendo una de mis primeras sesiones que hice al aire libre porque no tenía experiencia en estudios y tampoco tenía los equipos necesarios para hacer la sesión en un cuarto estudio, decidí citar a este modelo en un parque muy lindo que se llama “Parque Bicentenario” ubicado en Santiago de Chile. Nos vimos a las 3:30 de la tarde con la intención de agarrar la mejor luz naranja del atardecer y al principio, mientras nos conocíamos, dábamos un paseo por el parque y le hablaba sobre las poses, miradas y gestos que pensaba para su sesión, con la intención de alinearnos y que a pesar de mi poca experiencia, todo saliera bien. Este chico llamado Vicente, tampoco tenía mucha experiencia como modelo, entonces eso también me daba un poco de seguridad para tomar el mando del momento con la finalidad de demostrarle confianza en lo que estábamos haciendo, porque de todos modos tenía la teoría, a pesar de que mis experiencias eran pocas. Sin embargo, todo empezó a fluir de buena manera y ya anteriormente le había dicho que se llevara algunas mudas de ropa para hacer la sesión con diferentes camisas. Una de las cosas que hago cuando realizo una sesión fotográfica, es observar muy bien a la persona para sacarle provecho a lo que más destaca en su rostro y Vicente tenía un cabello muy llamativo de color dorado con ojos claros, entonces mi objetivo era poder destacar esas dos cosas que resaltaban en él y buscaba un lugar donde le enfocara el sol a su rostro para jugar un poco con la luz y la sombra. Todo esto es ensayo y error, porque cuando estás improvisando y luego llegas a casa revelando las fotos, ves los errores y las cosas que cometiste mal sin poder hacer nada, porque no se puede retroceder el tiempo y mucho menos cuando ya invertiste un tiempo de tu trabajo y también del modelo, aparte que no se ve muy profesional decir: las fotos no salieron de todo bien, nos vemos mañana para repetirlas? jajaja, no se puede hacer eso, como sea, tienes que salvar algunas de las fotos para poder justificar el precio de tu sesión, ¿no? Y ahí entra en juego el retoque fotográfico y la experiencia que tengo a mi favor como diseñadora porque gracias a saber las herramientas adecuadas para retocar, es donde puedo tranquilizarme un poco para entregar un set de fotos con edición y que el modelo quedase satisfecho con el tiempo y dinero invertido. Lo importante, en este caso, es sacar la mayoría de fotos posibles y de varios ángulos, sin pensarlo mucho, ajustando el ISO y el diafragma y sobre todo, evitando la sobreexposición, porque una foto subexpuesta se puede aclarar, pero una foto sobreexpuesta se pierde por completo. Por eso, al tener claro esos puntos, puedes jugar manualmente con tu cámara y en cada toma, ajustar el diafragma y el ISO que vienen siendo los píxeles de una fotografía, es decir: a menos ISO (100) menos ruido tendrá tu foto. Pero, la teoría no lo es todo, para poder ser un buen fotógrafo necesitas muchos años de experiencia y a pesar de que el camino ha sido largo y he aprendido bastante, siento que me falta muchísimo por aprender.
