To get to the top, I chose the cable car. It’s amazing to see the city grow smaller beneath your feet as the cabin glides smoothly toward the summit. The panoramic view through the glass is the first of many “wows” you’ll utter that day.

Cost of the trip: The price of a round-trip ticket is around $29,500 COP (Colombian pesos) on weekdays and Saturdays. If you go on a Sunday, the price drops a bit, to around $17,500 COP, which is great, although there are more people.

Altitude fact: Get ready to take a deep breath, because the summit sits at an impressive 3,152 meters above sea level. You can feel the fresh air—and it’s a little cooler up there!

The Sanctuary: Faith and Silence
Once at the top, the first thing you see is the imposing Basilica of the Fallen Lord of Monserrate. It’s a beautiful, colonial-style white chapel that contrasts perfectly with the blue sky.

Stepping inside is an experience of absolute peace. Regardless of your beliefs, the architecture and the silence within invite reflection. It is the spiritual heart of the hill and a true symbol of the city.

Walking along the stone paths, surrounded by greenery and craft stalls, is magical. But the most striking feature is the view. From the lookouts, you can see the vastness of Bogotá stretching as far as the eye can see; it looks like an endless model.

Note for travelers: Take lots of photos, but also put your phone away for a moment. The wind on your face and the magnitude of the mountain are sensations that the camera can’t fully capture.

Quick Tips
Weather: Up there, the weather changes quickly. Bring a good jacket because the wind blows hard.

Food: There are sit-down restaurants as well as stalls serving local cuisine. Don’t leave without trying a hot chocolate with cheese to warm up.

It was an unforgettable day! If you get the chance, head up and let yourself be amazed by the magic of the capital from the highest point.
