A Memorial Day Stew

Hello Foodies.

For the last several years this account ( @vagabondspirit ) had been curating posts on Creative Coin #creativecoin .

The account delegated its CCC to @idoodle which is starting a prompted art project called "The Infinite Doodle." So, @vagabondspirit will now dedicated itself to curating content on Foodies Beehive .

Truthfully, I am not much of a foodie myself. I usually just buy the least expensive food I can find in the store and cook it.

During the summer months I cook on a rocket stove. This is a wood fired stove that burns biomass. Rocket stoves are considered to be carbon neutral as they burn wood that would be sent to landfilss where they would decay in the open air.

Anyway, my local store had a low price on this pineapple. I thought it might serve as a basis of a stew.

The discount bin at the meat counter had some stewing meat. I decided to splurge and buy some marrow bones as some people taut the benefits of bone marrow.

A few months ago the store had a half price sale on a new line of bulk spices; so I bought some. I also bought some avacado oil, at another half price sale, as I hear it is better for high temperature cooking than most oils.

IMHO a stew consists of whatever one has on hand added to whatever was on sale at the store. This means that every stew is different as the incredient list will change. These are things that I usually put in stews:

  • oinion
  • carrots
  • celery
  • potatoes
  • bell pepper *
  • mushrooms
  • beans *

*Ooops, I forgot to get a pepper. I add cans of beans depending on the number of people I serve; so I did not add any to this dish. Here is a picture of what I tossed into the pot:

I had a little box on chicken stock; so I poured it into the pot.

Now for the Cooking

It takes a moment to light the rocket. The fire is often smokey at first. I need to develop a good fire starter.

Once the fire was blazing I began throwing things in the pan.

Current health experts are saying that fats from whole sources are better than processed fats. So, I used some bacon as the primary oil in the stew.

I started the meal by throwing the bacon into the bottom of a dutch oven. I then added the marrow bones and topped it with turmeric as one needs to cook turmeric in oil to bring out the nutrients.

rstew03.jpg

I browned the meat and then added the pineapple as I want the enzymes of the pineapple to mix with the meat. I then dumped in the celery. I added a can of dark olives for visual contrast.

rstew04.jpg

I finally added the potatoes and carrots.

rstew06.jpg

I did the initial cooking with four sticks in the rocket stove. I then turned the stove down to two sticks an simmered for 30 minutes.

Experiences vary depending on the size and source of the sticks. These sticks came from a shrub oak.

I have a fancy green spatula with a silicone blade.

The mushrooms went in last. They could go in earlier if you like the mushrooms well cooked.

I have no idea what do with the inner core of the pineapple. I tossed it ontop fo the stew hoping that any flavor in the piece would render out.

I took the final shot (shown at the top of the page) infront of a toaster with a reflexive surface. The marrow bones were extremely expensive, but i think they add character to the plate and the marrow is supposed to be nutritious.

I apologizes to the Foodies Community for not having a recipe. I tend to cook by method and not by recipe. The food comes out different each time.

Anyway, @vagabondspirit will concentrate on curating #FOODIE . The acount @idoodle will curate #creativecoin . I probably won't be sharing many recipes as I usually just cook what is on hand combined with what is on sale.

My kitchen is more of a foodie's nightmare than a foodies haven.

I really like cooking with the rocket stove as I feel that it is a sound alternatives to fossil fuels.
