Doors tell a story - Las puertas cuentan una historia (ENG/ESP)
Hello friends, there is a phrase that says "when one door closes, another one opens". Particularly I don't think it's like that, the strict logic doesn't always apply because there are times when nothing goes well for us and others when we live happily and it seems that all the doors open for us. I am particularly struck by the doors: they speak, they tell us why they are there, who passed through that place, what era they are from, what they represented or continue to represent. As an engineer I could say that doors are classified according to their materials, or their size, or their shape, or their design, and so on. This is a cold way of categorising them. In reality they tell us about their history, as when anthropologists find household waste in excavations of some geological site, they tell us about the people, the customs, the habits. We can also mention the doors that are no longer doors today, such as the Puerta de Alcalá in Madrid, Spain, or the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany or the Istar Gate originally in Babylon (today in the Berlin Museum) that do not close anything, on the contrary, many people pass through them without thinking that they are not much of a door, only a place of passage, or a monument. But there they are, as mute representatives that history recognises for other reasons, even more important than the element itself.
Hola amigos, hay una frase que dice “cuando una puerta se cierra, otra se abre”. Particularmente no creo que sea tan así, no siempre se da la lógica estricta porque hay épocas en donde nada nos sale bien y otras donde vivimos contentos y parece que todas las puertas se nos abren. Particularmente me llaman la atención las puertas: hablan, nos dicen porque están ahí, quienes pasaron por ese lugar, de que época son, que representaron o siguen haciéndolo. Como ingeniero podría decir que la puertas se clasifican de acuerdo a sus materiales, o a su tamaño, o su forma, o su diseño, y así podría seguir. Esta es una manera fría de catalogarlas. En realidad nos hablan de su historia, como cuando los antropólogos encuentran residuos domiciliarios en excavaciones de algún yacimiento geológico, nos hablan de la gente, de las costumbres, de los hábitos. También podemos mencionar a las puertas que ya hoy no lo son, como por ejemplo la Puerta de Alcalá en Madrid, España, o la Puerta de Brandeburgo en Berlín, Alemania o la Puerta de Istar originariamente en Babilonia (hoy en el Museo de Berlín) que no cierran nada, por el contrario, mucha gente pasa por ellas y sin ponerse a pensar que poco tienen de puerta, solo un lugar de paso, o un monumento. Pero ahí están, como mudos representantes al que la historia reconoce por otros motivos, hasta incluso mas importantes que el elemento en si.
One door that really touched me was the Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica. This door is only opened in special situations, for example on Jubilee 2016 when I had the joy of entering through it. This passage marks the passage of believers seeking absolution for their sins. I personally didn't know about it until I was there and it was a very pleasant surprise to be able to participate in an event that is historic as it happens eventually.
Una puerta que me emocionó mucho fue la Puerta Santa de la Basílica de San Pedro. Esta puerta solo se abre para situaciones especiales, por ejemplo en el Jubielo del 2016 en que tuve la dicha de entrar por ella. Ese tránsito marca el paso de los creyentes en busca de la absolución de los pecados. Particularmente no lo sabía hasta que estuve allí y fue una sorpresa muy agradable el poder participar de un hecho que es histórico ya que sucede eventualmente.
The photos that I present today are a selection of several that caught my attention either because of their shape or texture or because of the place where they are. I have been lucky enough, due to the fact that I have been able to travel, to photograph them in different parts of the world (although I also have several from my city), belonging to houses, castles, prisons, shops, warehouses, etc. They correspond to different periods of history, from the present day to who knows how many centuries ago, and they are still standing firm against the passing of time.
Las fotos que presento hoy son una selección de varias que me llamaron la atención ya sea por su forma o textura o por el lugar donde están. He tenido la suerte, por el hecho de poder viajar, de fotografiarlas en distintas partes del mundo (aunque tambien tengo varias de mi ciudad), pertenecientes a casas, castillos, cárceles, comercios, depósitos, etc. Corresponden a distinta épocas de la historia, desde la actualidad hasta quien sabe cuantos siglos atrás y todavía se encuentran en pie, firmes ante el paso del tiempo.

Buenas fotos, acompañadas de un escrito igual de ilustrativo. Las puertas siempre tienen algo de misterio, por lo que es inevitable sentirnos atraídos hacia ellas. Saludos.
