Two Days in South Lake Tahoe
A few weekends ago, we were in South Lake Tahoe. Previously, I posted about Hiking Spooner Lake Trail (Near Lake Tahoe). Which is, oddly, the only time I took pictures of a lake during our most recent trip.
Since I didn't get a good picture of South Lake Tahoe on this trip, I'm including this first picture that I took on October 30, 2024 at Logan Shoals Vista Point.
This spot offers beautiful views and is a short 15 minute drive north from the California/Nevada stateline. This was a colder, overcast day in October and we didn't see the sun on that trip.
Our Hotel - Alder Inn
We stayed at the Alder Inn Hotel. It wasn't fancy but was affordable and well-lit at night. The lights added a nice ambiance to our stay in the area.
The hotel had a few outdoor seating areas and yard games (chess and Connect Four) available.
Walking the Neighbourhood and Ice Cream 🍦
We went for a walk in the neighborhood and saw this nice Black Bear Lodge. It's looks very cozy and could be a nice place to stay on a future trip.
We stopped at Aloha Ice Cream where they serve rolled ice cream or regular scoops. We opted for the rolled ice cream "Cookie Monster" with vanilla base and oreo cookies mixed in.
Bijou Dog Park 🐶
The next morning we went to the Bijou Dog Park to take my uncle's dog for some exercise.
This was an agility park for dogs near the dog park. It didn't appear to be open to the public and nobody was using it at the time.
This is the parking area with some nice trees on the way to the dog park.
This was my first time ever going to a dog park so I didn't know what to expect. It wasn't anything special, just a mostly grassy fenced in area. I want to write something funny like @slobberchops would, but I can't think of anything.
The dog had a good time at the park and got plenty of exercise.
A Swedish Breakfast at Heidi's
We had breakfast at Heidi's Pancake House. It's a popular spot for breakfast that has been there since 1962. They were able to accommodate 11 of us at two tables near each other.
Out of all the food we ordered, the waffles were the most visually appealing.
Food and Shopping at Stateline
After the previously mentioned hiking at Spooner Lake, we spent the afternoon walking around the shops at Stateline. We had a nice outdoor lunch at Azul Latin Kitchen.
They have this sign on the way to the bathrooms that gives a good laugh.
The shops around Stateline are scenic and are built like a snow lodge with many small shops around the outside.
This is the Zalanta resort from across the street.
This colorful chair decorated with skis sits at the bottom of the Heavenly Ski Resort. Nearby you can purchase tickets to ride the Heavenly Mountain Scenic Gondolas. We've done that in the past but didn't take the gondolas on this trip.
We made one more stop for ice cream at The Baked Bear. The sign on the ceiling reads "Life is Short. Eat Cookies!"
We had the cookie sandwich with blackberry crumble ice cream and gooey butter cake cookies. Good taste but it was too much food, we ate only half of it.
On the walk back, we stopped to see the fountain. Yes, it's a bit phallic-looking for sure. You can see one of the gondolas in the background.
This was a beautiful place to walk around for the afternoon. Anyone who has visited South Lake Tahoe has probably spent time here shopping or eating. That was about all we did for this trip. We drove back home shortly after this.

Such a fun trip recap! South Lake Tahoe looks like such a cozy spot to spend a weekend. Despite the overcast weather. Loved how you mixed in nature views, hotel vibes, yummy food, and even a dog park visit 🐶. Heidi’s waffles look like a must-try too!
Thanks @yugadi! Yes, it is a cozy spot to spend a weekend. The overcast weather shot was from our visit in October. This last weekend we were there, it was sunny the entire time. Thanks for reading!
