ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN OF BATAK PROTESTANT CHURCH, KABANJAHE, INDONESIA

In the province of North Sumatra, there are several church buildings with magnificent architecture and design. One of the church architectures that looks magnificent is the Batak Protestant Church located on Jalan Jamin Ginting, Kabanjahe City, North Sumatra Province.

This Batak Protestant church has a magnificent modern building architecture. Tourists who have visited the city of Kabanjahe will be amazed by this Protestant church building. The architecture of the luxurious church building looks different from the surrounding buildings, the choice of building prints that are not flashy but looks elegant, adds to the magnificent impression of the GBKP church building.

The architecture of the Batak church building consists of three buildings, namely one building on the left side, one building in the middle and one building on the right side. The architecture of the building in the middle is different from the buildings on the left and right. I will show my friends the architecture of every building in this Batak protestant church.

The architecture of the building on the left looks different from the architecture of the building in the middle.

The architecture of the building on the left has long windows, each window has a frame made of concrete and a pillar-like design. I saw the Pillars framing the windows like a modern Romanesque building. With this concrete frame, the architecture of a window looks magnificent.

Architecture The windows in the left side of the building are also protected by a concrete roof. This concrete roof looks harmonious with the large window design. The perfect looking combination. Concrete roofs are useful for protecting windows from heat and rain, so window frames are not easily weathered by weather changes.

In front of the building on the left there is also a minimalist garden, several bonsai plants with well-maintained ornamental grass can be seen filling the garden, even though this park is not that large, the bonsai plants in the garden make this garden look wider and more beautiful.

This park is adjacent to the path that leads to the main building, the building in the middle. This path is made of paving blocks, so that the architecture of the garden and the small path leading to the church look wider. When it rains, the streets are not muddy because of the paving blocks. From this side we can also see the architecture of the terrace with pillars made of concrete, these pillars support the roof in the middle of the building. The roof on this terrace shows a typical design of the Karo Batak tribe.

The architecture and design of the central building/main building looks identical to the architecture of the Karo Batak tribe. In the middle of the building there is a carved floral design and also a lizard animal with bright colors, this is a typical design of the Karo Batak tribe found in the building. This Protestant church is also one of the architectures with Karo Batak carving designs.

The architecture of the building in the middle is a stair made of natural stone, in the middle of the stair there is a handrail made of stainless steel. These steps are directly connected to the fence on the front.

A simple gate design without a lot of motifs and details, the gate is made of iron and varnished pieces of wood. The 1.5 meter high gate is only used as a barrier between the church and the sidewalk of Jalan Jamin Ginting. While the guardrail is made of natural stone which is gray in color. the brown gate looks contrast with the gray guardrail. The symbol of the cross is also seen adorning the architecture of the central building.

The architecture of the building on the right is no less interesting than the architecture of the building on the left and center. The architecture on the right is the same as on the left, except that on the right there is a garden that is wider than the mini garden on the left.

The architecture of the building that looks magnificent is not matched by sufficient parking space, this is due to the location of the Church which is located on the edge of the main road. Congregations who bring cars can park their vehicles on the side of the road, while those who bring motorbikes can park in the church yard.

I don't know when the church building was built, there are no inscriptions or information from the website that explains when this Protestant church was built. There are no administrators that I can ask.

Thank you friends who love architecture + design for taking the time to read my post.
Best Regards

The church is big and looks majestic so it makes me wonder what the inside of the building looks like. Oh and the lizard, how i missed that signature design in batak.

Awesome exterior aesthetics @umirais! That attractive church is definitely a head-turner and you wouldn't miss it when passing in that vicinity. I'm surely impressed by how that sacred building utilized the iconic roofing elements of the Batak tribe and installed them at that monument's front facade and entrance canopy! 😊

Would have loved to see its interiors. What do you think is the most expensive building material used for the construction of that church?

the most expensive part is the canopy with Batak ethnic decoration, even though it looks simple from wood, but it needs special techniques to make the architecture. the wood used is not just any wood but old forest wood @storiesoferne

Yes, that would make a lot of sense @umirais. The design and installation methods involved in constructing that Batak-inspired canopy/entrance would definitely require the professional services of a specialist. Hence, the expensive price. Thank you for your interesting response. 😊
