Summer Solstice hike - ĺMy Actifit Report Card: June 20 2026

It was a tiring day for a high altitude hike (approximately 10,000 feet) up at the Medicine Wheel archeological site in the Little Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming.

It was a gorgeous ride up into the mountains along the scenic highway. The high meadows were a rich green and big patches of snow were still visible when we got up to 9000 feet. Lulu had her head out the back window as the miles passed and were all ready for a vigorous hike up to the site.

It was chilly, windy but very tranquil at the site, perfect to relax and reflect after the couple of miles trekking. Poor Lulu wanted to chase some noisy marmots living nearby in the rocks but she was able to wait patiently while we made the prayer walk around the sacred site.

The altitude was very tiring so the mostly downhill return was a welcome relief and it gave Lulu the chance to enjoy the remnants of the winter's snow (none in Cottonwood this year). She may be a 9 year old girl but here she was a puppy again.

Rain followed us home to Spearfish but we need the moisture.
Looking forward to some much needed sleep tonight.
