Filters: A Case Of What I Ordered VS What I Got
Filters!
Does it really make sense using them? Well, perhaps for some good number of people, most likely ladies, but definitely not for people like us. Never been a fan, not even a fan of pictures in the first place.
So I have been looking forward to meeting Amara after chatting with her for so long. We had met on twitter and after a couple of hi's, we hit it off. She looked a little bit older on her profile but that was not a problem. As a matter of fact I would rather an older lady than a lady much younger than I am.
After much back and forth, we decided to take it a step further. Let's meet somewhere. We decided for a particular weekend.
The weekend came and it was D day. Venue was a beautiful restaurant close to her office. I didn't have to wait long as she came right on time. She looked pretty, more than her pictures portrayed.
Conversations was going smoothly till she asked, "do you use filters on your photos". "off course I don't", I told her.
From that point I noticed she became withdrawn. Her response were not forthcoming as one would expect. I didn't read meanings to all of this till we said our good byes.
Subsequently she refused chatting me up as usual and wouldn't pick my calls. I wondered what could have gone wrong. After much efforts to reach her, she told me what the problem was.
According to her I deceived her. How?
I was lost. She said I looked way younger than I looked in picture. Still confused how that was a problem, she added, "even my younger brother is older than you". I didn't know whether to laugh, or laugh(you get?)
In a nutshell, the relationship was dead on arrival. In her words, I was a small boy but made myself look older with a filter. Which in all honesty I did not. I mean, who does that?
I have never been a picture person. I hardly take pictures, not even while in school. I have this abnormal belief that I don't look good in pictures, especially those ones called passport photographs. If not for documents, I wonder who takes them. Come to think of it, maybe if I apply filter they will appel more to me, just maybe.
The thing is, like I said, I am not a photo person. Even as few as my photos are, I have never used filter. I don't even know how to use them. For me there is really no need to make them aesthetically better. I believe what you see should be what you get, especially as it relates to human pictures. But then, do I agree with people that likes using them?
To a very large extent I would not agree to whatever argument people have for using it, just as am not a fan of make up.
I see them as being deceptive and criminal, lol. If you hide how you look or try to adjust how something looks, then there is a problem with you or that thing. Me for one will not reckon with that person once I see your true appearance. I remember my experience with "what you ordered for vs what you get". It was funny.
What I ordered VS what I got
I remember ordering a shirt online, from a popular market place. Before the shirt came I was already fantasying how the shirt would look on me. From the pictures online, I really loved the shirt and couldn't wait to have it delivered to me.
On the day of delivery, once I got information it was at their office, I quickly rushed to get it myself, despite paying for home delivery.
I picked it up and went home. I got home and lo and behold it was totally different from what I saw and ordered. I looked for tears but they refused to come. To make it worse, it was non refundable. Since then, anything online, I take them with a pinch of salt till I see them physically. Let what happened in 1900 not repeat itself again.

I feel she should have believed you though. Pictures are good and I suggest you should start taking some, at least for memories....
I think I should try taking pictures more now. Problem is I don't even think about it. But like you said, for memories. I will try, but no filter though, lol.

But sincerely Speaking I see no reason why she had to end the relationship based on age, I think you should be the one concerned about that not her, well I guess everyone has their spec. From my own perspective dating a older lady is definitely a no for me, I guess she is someone like that also.

Well, people have told me severally that I look young in my pictures and I love the compliment even though I do my pictures without filters
I wish my story is the same. Hate seeing myself in pictures bro. Good thing gradually getting over it.
Sorry about your experience, I believe that whatever is meant to be will stand regardless and whatever is not for us will fall no matter how good it started.

This is why most men do not trust the pictures that women now take these days because they always use a filter and they never can tell which one is fake or real
Exactly my point. Funny enough I don't have much problem with people using it, my only problem is people using it excessively. For me it's too deceptive

We all need to be careful when buying things online. I sell things online that's why i use original pictures without filters to avoid the case of "What i order VS What i got". Thanks for sharing
