Maui is a whole different world again! That's wild about the rapidly-shifting winds at the top of the mountain! You don't see that in many places! Oh, by the way, usually when fires burn underground for long periods of time, it's because there are coal deposits. Some keep burning for years. I hope you guys get nice warm, gentle winds, and with lots of sun, of course! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’šโœจ๐Ÿค™

I have read that about Coal burning underground for years ........somewhat scary!๐Ÿ™„
I don't think that's the issue here, I think it's massive piles of tree debris piled up 20 feet deep.... just so much wood laying around to burn!!๐Ÿ˜ณ

Ah, OK, I see. Yes, 20-foot high piles of trees and debris would definitely burn for a while too! It would be cool if you could cook with it! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’šโœจ๐Ÿค™

I am also wondering, what kind of fuel they are using to get this fire started in pouring down rainโ€ฆ.
All the wood is soaking wet!
I am suspecting diesel fuel, and probably a lot of it!๐Ÿ˜ฎ

That's a good point, and you're probably right. Wet wood is not easy to light at all, so they'd definitely need some extra help! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’šโœจ๐Ÿค™

Next time I get close by, Iโ€™ll try to watch and see what they useโ€ฆ๐Ÿ˜‡

I don't work with diesel much, so I don't even remember what it smells or looks like, would you be able to tell from a distance? ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’šโœจ๐Ÿค™

Iโ€™ve been trying to figure it outโ€ฆโ€ฆ
I canโ€™t really tell from a distance, the fires are so intense!๐Ÿ˜ณ

Hrmmm...well, it would probably be either gasoline, kerosene, or diesel, I imagine. I've got to say, this logging company doesn't seem very environmentally sensitive or aware! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’šโœจ๐Ÿค™

I don't think they really care about environmental impact at all unfortunately...... they even clearcut wetlands!

That's just really sad. I have no problem with the harvesting of trees, but I sure wish that it could be done with some care and finesse. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’šโœจ๐Ÿค™

Many of my neighbors have said the same thing, they were expecting more of a select harvesting......
This particular company does not pick and choose, they just takes everything!!!!

Hrmmm...I can't even imagine the mentality of people that thinks that this sort of thing is OK. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’šโœจ๐Ÿค™

I cannot understand either my friend..... one of our neighbors that lives at the end of our road near the clear cut is actually considering selling........

That's not surprising, as for people who love their quiet spot in the woods, that would be a pretty harsh shift. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’šโœจ๐Ÿค™

It is so nice and quiet living in the foothills of the mountains!๐Ÿ˜Š
And also, we are far above the flooding!๐Ÿ˜‡

Exactly, and I imagine so, and on both counts! You've got a sweet spot, my friend! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’šโœจ๐Ÿค™
