While some active #Ecency users got disappointed with the change on the awarding of the #Ecency Weekly Engagement Leaderboard by Melinda, it at least gave better chances for active users that are between Top 11 to 50 on the weekly leaderboard to win (which is a 10% chance to win 4 HIVE and 500 Ecency Points for being within the Top 50). πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈπŸ€“

Indeed, I know, and I was one of them. I liked the old format so much better, but alas, it's gone, so I flow with how it is now. πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ’šβœ¨πŸ€™

If only there aren't #Ecency users whose comments are too short, then Melinda wouldn't have (needed to) make that change in her #Ecency Engagement Leaderboard weekly awarding. πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈπŸ€―

Yep, I agree. There often does seem to be people that spoil a good thing by trying to game or take advantage of it. πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ’šβœ¨πŸ€™

It looks like the #Ecency dev team members responsible for the #Ecency Engagement Leaderboards simply count the number of posts or comments published by an Ecency user for the leaderboard ranking without taking into account the length of (and delays between) posts and comments !INDEED. πŸ€―πŸ€“

Indeed, and that became fairly obvious pretty quickly. πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ’šβœ¨πŸ€™

About half a year has passed since Melinda and some active #Ecency users noticed that some other Ecency users shot up to the top of the #Ecency Engagement Leaderboards quickly even with (very) short and similar comments, and nothing still apparently changed on how Ecency engagement leaders are displayed. πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈπŸ€―

Indeed. I think that it would have been better to resolve the underlying mechanism that allowed useless comments to rise to the top, rather than changing the nature of the contest. πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ’šβœ¨πŸ€™

I think that Melinda could use (better if from the Ecency dev team) a script which determines the average number of words (or characters) on the comments of the Top 10 users on the #Ecency Weekly Engagement Leaderboard such that users with very low averages won't get prizes, !INSTEAD of changing the way winners are selected. πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈπŸ€―πŸ€“

Yes, I agree, that was another good option. Bjorn could have whipped one up quickly I'm sure. πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ’šβœ¨πŸ€™

In that case, I would suggest one of Melinda and Bjorn talk to the other regarding such useful script, though I think that Melinda won't simply change back how #Ecency Weekly Engagement Leaders are awarded just because of certain tools. πŸ€―πŸ˜…

Yeah, it's doubtful that she'd change back, so best just to accept and move forward. πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ’šβœ¨πŸ€™

At least, if Melinda and Bjorn would talk to each other, then Melinda would be more prepared for future concerns that may arise regarding her #Ecency Weekly Engagement Leaderboard awarding. πŸ€—πŸ˜Ž

Well the thing too is that I'm pretty sure that they've already been in communication, as I believe that he was working on a script for her. πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ’šβœ¨πŸ€™

Anyway, I just noticed the word "useless" on your comment there, something you have used here on Hive only once for the past 30 days according to #Ecency Search. πŸ€―πŸ˜…

It reminds of the !MEME about totally useless things, such as a handle inside a cup and a door intentionally placed in the middle of a path on an open field (though the cup may be four-dimensional and the door may be a teleporter in disguise)! πŸ€―πŸ€£πŸ˜‚

I think that in general, any contest that exists will have some people trying to take advantage of it, so the contest hosts should probably have the responsibility in adjusting their rules for the contest itself to be as fair as possible (to every participant). πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈπŸ€“

It looks like you mean that for a contest to be fair, it should be !FUN. πŸ€” That's quite hard to explain, though I could say that if a contest takes too much time from the participants (as well as the audience) just to be fun, then it can be said that it's no longer fair for the people involved !INDEED. πŸ€―πŸ˜…

More the other way around, for a contest to be fun, fairness is an essential element. Things that take too long also tend not to be fun. πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ’šβœ¨πŸ€™
