That's a banyan tree. Banyans are a subgenus of fig trees, Ficus. They are incredibly impressive trees in person. Thin roots grow from the branches toward the ground, and when they finally contact the ground, they grow quickly in diameter, becoming new trunks. In this way, banyans can 'walk', and cover many acres. I have three different species of banyans in pots, one of which I also have planted at the edge of the lava, and it's growing fast!
