Indeed, I've been noticing, @benthomaswwd, and you're right, it's not a good thing at all. That's exactly why these we need to move entirely to decentralized, non/self-custodial, KYC-Free frameworks. I wonder what you would say about the thought that the more the Top Hive Witnesses there are (from the current 20), the more decentralized Hive will be. 🤔🧘‍♂️🤯🤓

Yes, of course, the more the better, though I think that all who run nodes should receive benefit for doing so, not only those in the top 20. 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

All operators of working Hive nodes do receive rewards (in the form of Hive Power), though the Top 20 Hive Witnesses take about 95% of the rewards for Witness nodes. 🤔🤯 Those below the Top 20 struggle with the 5%, where the probability of each node to be selected for creating a block and getting the associated rewards depends of the votes to it (in terms of Hive Power). 🤯🤓

In other words, for every 21 blocks added on the Hive blockchain, each of the Top 20 Witnesses create their own blocks, then the 21st block is created by a "backup witness" randomly selected from the Top 21 Witnesses downwards. 🤓😏

Yeah, the present system doesn't really give much incentive to actually allocate the time, energy, and resources to set up run a node, since if a node is not in the top 20, it gets peanuts, if even that. 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

They say that the stakes are very high to become (and remain) one of the Top 20 Hive Witnesses, such that those at the top need to run more than one witness node at the same time (to avoid missed blocks and therefore missed earnings and more "miss" permanent record). 🤔💸🤯🤓

Yipes, that sounds like quite an investment. This is why I run a Qortal node and not a Hive witness, since everyone at a particular level gets the same daily rewards. 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙
