I live barefooted and naked, very close to Earth and Nature, in a 16-acre, off-grid, clothing-optional, food-forest intentional community (GaiaYoga Gardens), way out in the jungles of Lower Puna, far East Big Island, Hawai'i. When we create a Hive account we receive various keys - Master, Owner, Active, Posting, and Memo, to carry out various operations on the Blockchain. These keys are of paramount importance to being able to access and utilize our account, and if we lose them, then the account to which they are connected is lost. For this reason it is necessary store them in a secure way, where we can access them easily, and yet keep them protected from unwanted eyes.

For many people coming from mainstream platforms cryptographic keys are a new experience, and there is often little thought given to security in relation to these keys. Protecting these keys, however, is one of the most important and very first things that we should do once we create a new account.

Redundancy is also very important, because even if our method of protecting our keys is secure, if we lose access to it, it's a moot point. So having multiple secure means of storage is ideal.

I presently make use of three separate methods of secure storage for my keys. I've had an account with MEGA Cloud Storage for years now. Unlike many cloud-storage providers MEGA is zero-knowledge encrypted, which means that not even the people who run the service can access your files. MEGA has apps for Linux, MacOS, iOS, Android, and Windows, as well as website access. I have one folder with all my keys stored in text files, which I can access from any device.

The second method that I use is via the encrypted email service, Tutanota. With Tutanota I can send encrypted emails by default or manually, so I send encrypted emails to myself with the keys, and then I store them in a specific folder.

The third method that I use is actually a new one that came from a recommendation from my Hive friend @treefrognada, Buttercup Password and Secrets Manager, which is an excellent open-source application for Linux, MacOS, iOS, Android, and Windows. It took me a little bit to figure out how to set it up properly, but once I understood it, the process was quite simple.

Those are the methods that I use for the moment, and they've served their purpose well up to this point. I've been thinking of perhaps writing another tutorial on this subject, as it's such an important topic, and I'm sure that there is a good bit of confusion around it. As I mentioned in yesterday's iteration of this post, I was scheduled to give Laksanya a session at 12PM yesterday. We ended up starting much closer to 2PM, and we finished close to 5PM. We had to truncate the session at the end, as Laksanya had things to do, and Aloha and Mahina really wanted me to play with them, as I didn't have time earlier. Laksanya loved her session, and wants more very soon. I'm always grateful for that.

After Laksanya's session, I played in the pool with the girls for a while, then I made myself food in the Landing, and returned to the Flow House to dive into very focused Hive catch-up and tasks. Sadly I wasn't able to fully catch up again, or to get all of my tasks done. Sleep overtook me just before 11PM, so Hive has to wait until this morning. I've gotten a couple tasks done so far, and of course this post, and then I'm going to focus on catching up once again.
