These Are A Few Of My Favourite Things
Words don't come so easy to me these days. I sit here in front of my laptop, with many ideas swimming inside my head, but when it comes to writing about them, the words don't come. So I decided to share some photos and see what words arise. Photos of some of my favourite things and places. Like the beautiful horse you can see in the picture up above. He is not always there, in the field inn front of where I live. But when he is, he is such a sight to behold.
My youngest daughter called out to me one morning. "Mum, come look what I found", I could hear the excitement in her voice and understood why, when she pointed to the wonderful treasure she had found. A mushroom, nestled amongst the grass.
Oh the green green grass of home, home being Ireland for me. I do miss the many shades that exist and the consist presence of water. So much water. It's funny, cos it's the rain that keeps me away, but also what I miss.
Where I live now, I don't have the green, but I am surrounded by some of the most majestic trees you could find. Olive trees, that are hundreds of years old. All gnarly and otherworldly. I never have to travel far to find them. I can only imagine the many magical creatures that live within it's branches and bark. Trees that provide us with most wonderful oil and medicine.
One of my favourite places, is way out in the valley, where two rivers meet. Surrounded by mountains, one of them amply called Dragon Mountain. I don't get to go here as often as I would like, but when I do, I feel so at home. So at home in the wild.
I do love living surrounded by mountains, what I also love, is that just over half an hour away, I get to enjoy the coast. This is one of my favourite beaches. It's nestled between two coastal towns,
so it doesn't get as busy as the ones in built up areas, plus it's great for snorkeling.
Passion flowers, the beauty of passion flowers. The grow wild here and when I first saw them, I has no idea what they were. Both them and caper flowers, are so beautiful, so exotic compared to the flowers I grew up with. I love to see them thriving here, sometimes in the most unexpected places.
Right now, this river continues to flow next to the land I live on. It's the first time in 9 years I have seen it flow in the summer months. Living next to fresh flowing water, is such a blessing, especially during the hot summer months. Me and my girls, along with our two canine companions, enjoy cooling off in it's waters everyday. There is nothing better, plus I get to fall asleep to the sound of it flowing past.
