Meziad Cave, mysteries in the depths

The cave you fear to enter hides the treasure you seek. Joseph Campbell

Hello all travel lovers

When was the last time you explored a cave to learn its secrets?

We have visited a lot of places in Romania and also a lot of caves, as proof of this are the posts made here in the community, the cave we will visit today together is called Meziad Cave.

Where is the cave?

Meziad Cave is located in Bihor county on the Meziad valley, in a fairy-tale area created by the Padurea Craiului Mountains and the Apuseni Mountains with which it borders.

We arrived here by personal car after a drive that took us about an hour and a half, everything changes from the moment you arrive near the cave and drive the last kilometers through an amazing forest, I must admit I am a great lover of nature, it fascinates and relaxes me.

We arrived at the Meziad hut and asked someone if I still had a long way to the cave and where I could park the car, so I found out that I still had to walk about 300 meters to a place where I could leave the car, that place was a forest road I can't call it parking, but I was reassured that I could leave the car there and I didn't bother anyone, especially since I had seen coaches parked there.

From the place where we left the car, we saw a sign that announced us that access by car was forbidden and that we had to walk another 300 meters, just in time to fall this hike through the forest.

Through the sound of river water and the chirping of birds we reach some beautifully arranged wooden stairs, the signs show us that access to the cave is on these wooden stairs.

After a climb of a few minutes (we could have arrived even faster but we stopped for pictures) we arrive at a house built in rustic style, here was the ticket office, but before arriving at the ticket office we met many information panels about fauna, vegetation or animals living in the area, many information about the customs of the Bihor area, even a tourist map of Craiului Forest with a special route for bicycles, the information is translated into English and Hungarian.

Useful information:

-the price of a ticket is:
30lei/6euro/person
15lei/3euro/child
-Visiting hours are
Monday-Friday 11am-5pm
Saturday-Sunday 10am-17pm

-It is very important to mention that access to the cave is only in groups with an authorized guide, the entrances take place every hour, so if you visit this area do not panic as you will have too long to wait.

-The cave tour takes on average about 35 minutes, it took us a little longer because we waited so we could get some pictures without the other tourists in them, and here I have to tell you that if you choose to stay behind for pictures it is a bit risky because when the group of tourists enters the cave the lights go off automatically and you risk staying in the cave in the dark, this can cause you accidents because the places you walk through are slippery, so try to keep up with the group.

-Another useful information to know how to dress in order to visit the cave in a pleasant way is the temperature inside the cave, inside the cave a constant temperature of 12 degrees is maintained.

As I wrote above the visit is done only in the presence of an authorized guide, and now let me tell you about the entrance to the cave which is spectacular, with a height of 16 meters and a length of over 4.5 kilometers, the cave being formed on floors, today we will visit only the part open to tourists.

The cave fascinated me as soon as we entered, and as we ventured into the cave it became even more amazing, here we could see even the cave bats, and from what the guide we were there with told us, the cave bear lived here and had disappeared about 12,000 years ago, inside the cave we could also see fossils of the cave bear.

Access from one floor to another in the cave is done on some metal stairs, some of them are even spectacular, many of the formations found here have been given names, which make them even more attractive, such as Devil's Throat.

Today I had a more special companion, a four-legged one.

Between the photo shoots and the information our guide gave us about the cave, time flew by and the fish's visitable route came to an end, so we headed for the exit after almost an hour spent in the depths.

As a conclusion to what we had the opportunity to visit today together I can say that any walk through the forest is beneficial to us, the foray underground can be spectacular (I am fascinated by caves), we leave the cave with a lot of new information that perhaps we did not know, we have relaxation, disconnection from the daily hustle and bustle.

What can we visit in the area?

  • Secular Oak tree of Remetea
  • Mill on the water in Rosia
  • Cave with crystals from Farcu Mine (I visited this mine with crystals and I will post about it in the future)

If you liked what you saw and read here please don't forget to give a LiKe, Follow, reBlog or a Comment, for all this I thank you, and until the next post I say goodbye.

P.S. The attached picture you have just seen are taken by me with my mobile phone, and the text is also designed by me.

Yours @triplug!

Nice caves and forest photos.

I would suggest you filter the number of photos, with that much photos most people won't look at all of them and may miss a gem.

Thank you very much for your appreciation, the photos I took when I visited the cave were over 250, I tried to share as many details about the cave as possible.
Also thanks for your advice.
