Limenaria, let's explore the second largest city on the island of Thassos (GR)
Hello travelers
In all my posts about Thassos Island, I mentioned that we always departed from Limenaria, where we were staying, so today's post is entirely dedicated to the town of Limenaria.
Now that I have visited Limenaria (actually, I visited every inch of the city, hehe), I can say that it is a typical Greek city, with impressive tourist attractions, welcoming people, Greek food (my mouth waters just thinking about Greek cuisine), and a friendly atmosphere everywhere I went.
We chose Limenaria for the simple reason that we wanted peace and quiet.
I have to write to you again. We were here in June, which was technically off-season, but even so, the resort was full of tourists, and the weather was perfect for swimming in the sea and, of course, going to the beach.
There is so much to write that I don't know where to start.
Right after we checked in, we took a short walk to a nearby tavern (about 100 meters away). We were quite tired from the journey, so we drank some mineral water and juice, then returned to our room to rest for a few hours. Of course, we fell asleep and woke up quite late and starving, but luckily we found a tavern that was still open.
The town of Limenaria is divided in two by the road that runs through it, so after exploring both sides of the road a little, we came to the conclusion that most of the accommodation is on the sea side (although we did see a few places on the other side, but not many) and on the other side of the road are actually the houses of the town's residents.
From what I have read, the city has a population of around 3,000.
One thing that is absolutely amazing is that the city has its own port. Yes, the island of Thassos has several ports (Limenas, where most ferries arrive), but this one is more of a fishing port. On several mornings, when we went out to admire the sunrise, we saw fishing boats coming in from the open sea.
So let's go and see what the port of Limenaria looks like. It's so interesting, with lots of fishing boats and, once again, that unmistakable Greek atmosphere.
There are many taverns here in the port, so you can have a spectacular culinary experience here too. I saw quite a few octopus tentacles drying in the port.
From here, you can also take various trips that will take you to many well-known or lesser-known beaches.
Let's not forget the beaches in Limenaria. We discovered two of them (I'm referring to the ones in the city, not the ones near the city). One was very long; we actually explored it on foot from the entrance to the city to the exit, very, very long.
One thing I admire here on the island of Thassos is that if you consume something at the terraces or taverns near the beach, these taverns provide you with free sun loungers.
I left the souvenir shops and other items that remind you that you visited Thassos Island for last.
My dear friends, I hope that the beauty of this city has captured your attention and, why not, if you come to Thassos, visit this city too, it's really worth it.
