Ethnographic exhibition and a traditional festival in the village of Ceru-Băcăinți, Alba County (Romania)

Hello travelers

I'm a great lover of history, traditions and customs, and when I find information about an event that has these three components, I do my best to visit that event.

Here I found information about an event that emphasizes the history of the place, but also the preservation of traditions.

Last weekend (Saturday, 05.06.2025) we visited the village of Ceru-Băcăinți in Alba county.

I've never heard of this village before, but I've never heard of this event, which seems to be already at its third edition, but wait, we are not only visiting the festival but we will also visit the Ethnographic Exhibition of the village Ceru-Băcăinți.

In the village of Ceru-Băcăinți we came by car arriving here after two and a half hours of driving, the road was quiet, the only problem was the very high heat, and yes, Romania has gone through a wave of excessive heat with record temperatures for this time of year.

The first time we will visit the Ethnographic Exhibition and in order to better understand what we will see next I will leave below some interesting information.

What attracts and has a special value in terms of the specificity of the place is the home itself, the house where the ethnographic exhibition is located. Made by the masonry technique woven from slagstone slabs mixed with sand, the house is 110 years old. The stone slab is rigorously sorted by thickness and built in almost perfectly aligned strings. The specific pickle is built only on the long side of the living room. The entrance to the pickaxe is made on the short side of it, and on the opposite side is the entrance to the porch. This system allows better to keep the heat inside the house in . The porcewoman entered the house beforehand, where there was a ceiling in the form of a boot and old wooden beams, which were covered because of the degradations. The house was covered with grain straw, placed on a wooden hard-to-ear wooden structure called horns, since 2005 it is covered with tile. The interior finish of the walls is made of what in the area is known as mourning, and the varnish is applied over it.

Ethnographic Exhibition is located in a traditional house in this area, the house is built only of river stone, I must admit that I am very glad that I had the opportunity to talk to a local who gave me some valuable information.

You should know that all the stones that were used to build the houses in the village (there are many houses or outbuildings built only of river stone) were not mechanically processed, but were simply extracted from the river and used in construction.

Another strange piece of information for me is that the village has no cemetery, yes, you read right, the deceased being buried in the yard or garden of the deceased's house, a bit strange, I wanted to convince myself that this is so and I visited a few houses, and surprise, in the garden of the houses I saw the graves of the deceased.

From that local I found out that there are only a few natives left and in the whole village there are just over 200 people, this is a negative effect of the massive depopulation of Romanian villages.

We leave behind the Ethnographic Exhibition and take a few steps to see a traditional Romanian festival.

From the very beginning we met a potter who showed us the technique of making clay pots, and the experience was even more interesting when you, as a visitor, could take the potter's place and try to make something out of clay.

We continued to discover the traditional Romanian dishes, and at these stalls you could taste each dish, all for free, this was the purpose of the festival, not to forget the traditions and customs.

I was impressed when I saw older people dressed in traditional costumes, something spectacular, but let's not forget the young people who came here dressed in traditional costumes.
