Travel is, for the young, part of education; for the old, part of experience - Francis Bacon
Hello travellers from around the world
Today I want to share with you pictures of a part of the village where I used to spend my summer holidays, yes, my grandparents lived in Căprioara and I was brought here by my parents to spend my summer holidays.
Căprioara is a village with a population of a little more than 200 inhabitants, the first attestation of it being somewhere around the year 1256 (there was a population recession two years ago and it is possible that the population is even smaller), a very old population, young people have moved to urban areas because they chose to have access to better conditions, the village has no water from the network, no gas, no sewage.
The village is in Săvârșin commune (a commune that hosted a traditional festival some time ago, about which I wrote a post) in Arad county.
After a drive of about an hour we reach Săvărșin and from here we turn right from the national road 7 onto a communal road and continue our route until we reach the bridge over the river Mureș, yes, to get there we cross the Mureș on a single lane bridge.
The landscape at this time of year is spectacular, the color green is predominant, after a few hundred meters we stopped and I raised the drone to show you and I see how the area looks from above, the spectacle of nature is amazing.
We go on and the next stop is at "Fantana Popii"( Priest's Well), the fountain from which I drank water when I used to come with my grandmother to the fields she owned (potatoes, onions, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, sugar beets, corn were grown on these fields) and which were worked by hand, much later they started to be worked mechanically (tractors, combines).
While I was taking pictures, a pheasant was very curious to see what we were doing there.
Today, however, these fields have become unproductive due to the fact that the young people of the village have chosen to abandon field work and become servants of the system, the old men who worked the fields in the past are no longer with us, for this purpose I chose to visit the village cemetery and show you some of the crosses on which you can see the years in which those people were born or died.
We also visited the old village cemetery.
Let's go inside the village
Besides this I want to stop a little more on the streets of the village and show you how the entrances to people's households look like, yes, I want you to see those massive wooden gates with a small door cut out inside.
I'm curious to hear from you if anyone who visits this post has encountered this type of gate before?
Here in Romania we frequently meet them in rural households, and the most spectacular gates in Romania, in my opinion, are those in the Maramures area and the traditional Szekler gates.
As you can see from the pictures, some houses are abandoned, others are unkempt, the owners are too old to maintain them, and the renovation costs are much higher than their income.
Once those stairs led to a house, today everything has been swallowed up by nature.
Most of the houses in this village had a fountain in front of the house, it was very useful to give water to animals coming from grazing (cows, horses).
They were dug by hand to a maximum depth of 6-7 metres, and the edges of the wells were built with stone to prevent them from collapsing.
My dear friends here ends the exploration of this authentic and traditional rural village, I hope you enjoy watching.

Thanks so much @LivingUKTaiwan , I'm glad my post got Honorable Mention in this Daily Travel Digest.
What a beautiful place 😍 I can imagine you were running around those fields when you were a child. The places where grandparents lived are always the best! 😁
Those wooden gates are super cool. If I would ever buy a house this would be the style I would go for 🙂
Thank you for sharing!
The memory of the places where I spent my childhood will remain forever in my soul, I will not forget them, even if my grandparents are watching me from somewhere up there and their memory will remain in my soul.
I remember the moments spent in the village alleys, I remember so many beautiful memories.
Thank you so much for the kind words written here.
