📷 Exploring the District of Tianzifang on a rainy Morning [EN/DE]
Tianzifang is a charming artists' quarter in Shanghai's French Concession district. In the narrow alleys of the renovated shikumen houses, yocan find a lively mix of art galleries, small boutiques, cozy cafes, and international restaurants. Despite its popularity with tourists, Tianzifang has retained its original, winding character and offers an exciting contrast to modern Shanghai—perfect for strolling, exploring, and taking photos.
It was already my fifth day in Shanghai, and once again the sky was overcast and it was raining almost continuously. So even before I set off on my walk through the neighborhood, I knew that my photos would once again feature lots of umbrellas. The advantage of the bad weather was that the narrow streets weren't too crowded, making it easier for me to photograph individuals.
As for my equipment, I decided to use my 85mm lens this time. Once I was on location, I felt that I had chosen too long a focal length to capture the atmosphere of the neighborhood. However, during post-processing, I found many shots that I was very happy with. I hope you like them too.
See you soon!/Bis bald!

I was going to ask which focal length you used for these since the background separation is really nice, then saw the 85mm mention. I love that lens for such shots, not just for the separation, but for how smooth that transition from subject to background can be! Been a while since I did something similar with my 85mm, but just a bit too sunny and chaotic around the city to really appreciate it at the moment
Yes, 85mm is such a great focal length for street photography. It's my favorite at the moment, as it allows me also not to go too close to people and still capture a bit of the surroundings for the context. And the background separation is a big advantage as well, as you mentioned.
Nice photo moment ✌️
Thank you 🙏😊
What great shots, everything with just the right balance of detail and contrast in the scenes. Cheers!
