Hi Everyone,

One of the hightlight of our trip to Yamanashi was to finally visiting the Chureito Pagoda. Many Mount Fuji shots where it appears on magazines or posters were taken from this particular stop with the mountain and red pagoda in view. This spot is one of the most scenic locations in Japan in my opinion. Be prepared to climb just under 400 steps up the mountain to reach this beautiful place.

Chureito Pagoda is a five-story pagoda built as a peace memorial. It is part of Arakura Sengen Shrine park where you can reach easily via public transport. You could read this in my previous blog of this beautiful shrine. The pagoda's name, 忠霊塔 (Chūreitō), means "Loyal Souls Tower," reflecting its purpose as a peace monument. You cannot go inside the pagoda but you can go onto the already build platform next to it to take the stunning view.

Chureito Pagoda can be visited throughout the year giving different vibes depending on the season. As we were there in winter, leaves were already fallen from autumn with Mount Fuji having a beautiful snow top. I would want to visit again during Spring where there would be cherry blossoms in the frames, it will sure be a different feel to it.

We were lucky to get a nice spot to take some stunning photos in conjunction with the platforms built so visits could take photos in different heights giving enough room for many of us taking turns. I would think that first thing in the morning or sunset would be a great time to visit with less crowds and great lighting. Also, try to go on a clear day, there is no shelter and to be able to hike up the hill you would need some good weather.

Ah, so that's where it is. I've driven by it several times without knowing it was nearby. I'll have to visit it now. Thanks.
