Many people know and joke that I like to use the word "alien" when talking about nature's creations. 😃And the plant I show you here is no different from this concept. It is only necessary to get up close and look at it in detail, (also - not to have much knowledge about species in nature in general 😂). So, this is an evergreen conifer creature, and its children, these sweet cones, are just amazing, aren't they?

The “frailejón” is a very special plant since it is adapted to one of the most extreme weather conditions: the “páramos” of high mountain. It stands extreme temperatures, high UV radiation and low humidity. Its scientific name is “Espeletia” and it is branched in many different species. It growths in the high altitude regions of Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador. It has hairy leaves so that allow its adaptability to the extreme conditions, its growth is very slow only 1cm pre year.

This photo was taken in Bogota (Colombia) at the top of the Monserrate Hill (located at near 3000 meters above the sea level).
