Bird in the bush instead of a Wednesday Walk
Not even at the end of the first week of April, and I'm wicked struggling with this daily posting - who's bright idea was this? Oh yeah... me! 😂
I thought the prompt today would be easy, and I was really looking forward to it.
From the daily prompt for Hive Blog Posting Month...
Go for a walk & share at least 5 photos for Wednesday Walk
I haven't had a chance to post to @tattoodjay's community for Wednesday Walk in forever - in fact, my camera has been mostly collecting dust for months now. I thought the prompt would be an excellent excuse to get outside and shake some of the rust off.
Long story short (almost as short as the amount of time I have to post this and then get to bed...lol) I didn't manage to get outside, and was at a loss as to what to share instead.
Then I remembered that a couple days ago late last week (I just checked the date on the picture and it said March 31st - man, time flies when you're redonkulously busy!), while I was sitting with hubby having our morning cup of coffee, I saw something moving in the leaves down the hill from our house. At first I thought it was a chipmunk, but it was moving in a weird way for a little chippie, so I grabbed my camera so I could zoom in and get a good luck at it.
My first try, I realized I'd pulled the SD card from it, so I had to scramble to get it back in (like I said, it's been a minute since I used it). Next, I had to grab my tripod (couldn't get a clear shot otherwise) and found out the connector piece was off (needed to remove it to get the SD card out, because of course). 🤦♀
When I finally got it all put together, I thought for sure that whatever it was had long skedaddled. I was very happily surprised that it hadn't. This is the first shot I got...
You can kinda see why I thought at first it was a chipmunk...
Amazingly enough, Google search was able to tell me what kind of bird it was. Please meet (and a first for me), the American woodcock.
I tried sneaking outside to get a better shot, but by the time I got there, he'd taken his long overdue skedaddle. Needless to say, I'm keeping my eyes open and hopefully there will be a return visit.

This is the first time I have seen this bird and it is very strange. If you just look at the head, you can even see that it looks like a snake. Thanks for sharing with us Traci!
