Dailypetphotography: Pigeons family

Hi, my dear friends!

End of the week and end of April. May, the last month of spring, will come into its own tomorrow.

As many of you may know, this week has been a tragic one for my country. Terrorist Russia has again shelled our cities. In Uman, a rocket hit a residential building. At the same time, Russian television shows it as Donetsk and that it was allegedly we who fired at residential areas. They do it all the time. They are masters of lies and manipulation. Uman is my dad's hometown, I have many relatives there and I know perfectly well what happened. But the fact remains. We are dealing with a cowardly and deceitful enemy.

After such a hard week, I wanted something light and beautiful. And life-affirming. And I can tell you for sure that it is difficult to find something more life-affirming than doves. These guys never give up and are always ready to continue life.

These photos were taken by me in the attic of my house. I will tell you honestly that this is not such an easy task! The thing is, my attic is quite low. It is so low that even with my small stature I cannot walk there at full height. But my task was further complicated by the fact that I had to not only keep my balance but also not drop the camera! That's fitness!

But the pigeons are happy with everything. They feel safe and actively hatch chicks. In fact, I will repeat once again, these birds are notable to hatch chicks all the time and everywhere. If there are at least minimal favorable conditions and a pair of pigeons, then be sure that very soon you will find a nest with two eggs. Yes, with two. Pigeons hatch two chicks at a time. At the same time, the time of year does not matter either, they can hatch chicks in the winter if they find a suitable place for the nest. But winter chicks rarely survive, and you will see why.

But first, please answer the question:

Have you ever seen pigeon chicks? 😉

IMG_5974.jpeg

Those who have been reading my blog for a long time will say: Well, of course! You've already shown us their pictures a hundred times! 😁

Yep,I showed! 😉 And I will show you many, many more times, because in my opinion, pigeon chicks are so cute that it is simply impossible not to take pictures of them! 😊

IMG_5973.jpeg

Then why are pigeon parents not in a hurry to show off their cute chicks? The answer is quite simple: pigeon chicks, unlike chickens, ducklings, goslings and many other bird babies, emerge from the egg completely bald and helpless. And here the real hell begins for their parents! They must have time to do a thousand things, but for this one of them must constantly remain in the nest and warm the chicks.

In these photos, you can see the chicks that have already begun to fledge, while two completely hairless tiny boogers hatch from the egg.

So, one of the parents warms the babies, while the second brings them food. If you ever see baby pigeons in a nest, you may notice that one of them is larger. This often happens because one of them is just more active and ... arrogant and gets more food. Yes, yes, in nature, arrogance is often the key to survival.

Sometimes when I find a nest, I intervene in this process of natural selection to see if both chicks are full. If I find that one of them is starving, I just take it and feed it with a special mixture for parrot chicks. The same thing happens in winter when the parents often just abandon the nest.

I hope you found this little overview of the life of pigeons interesting. May is ahead - the month of active appearance and feeding of babies by all animals and birds. Well, our little planet is still alive and life continues on it!

I wish you a great rest of the weekend and may the next week be a good one for all of us!

With love from Ukraine 💛💙
