1st day in Fez

First day in Fez, Morocco's second largest city and the country's former capital.

We're staying in the Medina, an ancient walled city with narrow, labyrinthine streets, which isn't surprising given the mid-morning heat. We visited a leather tanning complex, very artisanal, just like our ancestors did in times past and which is still done here.

At least in the Medina, the majority of the population seems to be dedicated to working with leather, wool, and other exotic fabrics. You can find countless businesses in the streets, and it's easy to fall in love with any item for sale. Selling to tourists is quite common here; aside from this, the entire city is one giant open-air market. After eating a Moroccan specialty, chicken tagine in my case, we returned to our hotel to enjoy the 39-degree temperature outside in the shade.

After a well-deserved nap, we preferred to stay in the riad's indoor pool. Then we went out to dinner and discover the nightlife.

It looks like an interesting place to be, and I definitely think it's a good idea to nap and relax in the shade. I wouldn't want to be out there in the summer heat.
