The wonders of Puerto Escondido

One of the perks of my work as a researcher at the Institute of Geology and Paleontology of Cuba is visiting different locations throughout the country to conduct environmental, geological, soil, and other Earth Science-related studies.

On this occasion, the objective was to carry out a hydrogeological and environmental study at one of the country's many coastal sites, a beautiful location that, due to its conditions and characteristics, is used for geotourism.

I admit I hadn't planned to publish the photos, as I'm a little afraid of not being a good photographer, and the quality of the images I see in the community is very high. However, while doing the office work and writing the report, I liked the photos and decided to share them here.

I confess it was a wonderful experience, and I didn't even feel like we were working.

Puerto Escondido is one of those wonders that captivates you from the moment you arrive, and this visit was no exception. There are many aspects that could be highlighted from a geological point of view, but I'm most struck by the warmth and turquoise color of its waters, as well as the numerous coastal features that allow us to draw conclusions about the effect of climatic agents on the Cuban coast. I was also impressed by the distinctive landforms, the vegetation, and the local fauna.

In addition to all of the above, Puerto Escondido is a facility A type of tourist accommodation known as a Popular Camping Base, a widespread option in Cuba because it is more economical than traditional hotels and allows for direct contact with nature.
