Jade Emperor Pagoda In Ho Chi Minh
In the heart of Ho Chi Minh City stands the Jade Emperor Pagoda, a historic temple built in the early 20th century by a Chinese man named Luu Minh. He came to Vietnam from China to pursue his business dreams. Known as a Confucianist, Buddhist, and Taoist practitioner, Luu Minh built the temple as a place for people to worship both Buddha and the Jade Emperor. Source
I grew up watching old Chinese kung fu movies, and this temple’s design reminded me exactly of what I used to see in those films. The Jade Emperor Pagoda isn’t as fancy or modern as some other temples, but its structure stays true to traditional Chinese architecture. It's one of the few old buildings that survived through the war and still retains its original form and charm.
It was about a 20-minute car ride from our hotel, and the fare was quite cheap—around $4. I highly recommend using Grab to get around in Vietnam. If you're comfortable with riding motorbikes, GrabBike is an even cheaper option. Just for context, my wife usually avoids motorbikes because she’s never ridden one before—but that story takes a surprising twist when we visited Phuket (more on that in a future post!).
There weren’t many visitors at the temple when we arrived, unlike what I’d seen in online reviews. Maybe it was because we didn’t come during peak hours or a holiday. Still, I’m glad we managed to visit at the perfect time—it made the experience feel more peaceful and special.
This is how it look to enter this sacret place. Before i forget , there was no entrences fee here but you are being encourage to donate according to your kind heart to the temples.
Just for your information, I'm not a Buddhist—but I truly enjoy exploring the architecture and culture of the places I visit. It was kinda peaceful when i walk inside this area.
People begin praying as soon as they enter the temple. Before stepping inside, you’ll notice a resting area in the center of the compound. I saw a few people relaxing there, watching the fish and enjoying the peaceful, therapeutic environment. Even though they were spending their time leisurely, everyone remained respectful—avoiding loud conversations or disruptive behavior. Even the children were gently guided by elders to behave politely if they started playing around.
Here was some photo at this places :
It was sad that you cant take photo inside the pagoda . We just went inside and see what happening inside . If you curious how it look inside , you are welcome to visit at this place in the future.
That's all for today , i hope you enjoy today journey and see you in future post. Cheers. !!
