Another food hunting in Hometown .
I have only a few weeks to settle my things in Malaysia, and after that, I have to go back to Singapore and continue my daily routine. One week is not enough, but at least okay, than having only 3 days or 4 days going back to your hometown.
The first thing that I'll do here is go food hunting. I don't say that other places don't have good food, but I believe everyone will agree that home food is the best food ever, especially our hometown food that was cooked by our mom (at least for me), and the second best food was the free food. As long as it was free, it was always the best option.
This time, I'm bringing you to come with me and taste the original noodle soup that I grew up with called MEE SUP KOTA BELUD. I have eaten this dish since I was a kid until now. I didn't know how to use a chopstick until I knew how to use it properly. Mee Sup, Kota Belud, was well known because of its home-made noodles. If you are originally from this town, you can differentiate the original taste of it using the home-made noodles compared to other noodles. Trust me that the soup was actually very simple; it was just a real soup with salt, a little bit of MSG, and some sugar, with chicken being boiled together to make the broth with the noodles.
When I was kids, they sold it for only 50 cents with a full bowl serving. Usually we'll finish the soup and refill it again and again (my limit is only 5 times refill or less) because it's free. Then we'll start eating the noodles, chicken, or pork and enjoy the last refill of soups.
My favourite was all mix, or known as "SUP CAMPUR CAMPUR." . The noodles soup with chicken with bone parts and pork, make it full with it, or we called it "SAPAK" in our local language.
Today i went to one of mee sup stall at local market . It was so different because this place has change into a big building . Long time ago , this place only a wodden shop with a lot of MEE SUP stall . This is non muslim stall , where they provide pork inside the soup. Of course there was non halal section and opposite this places . Also for additional information , this is not the only place that you selling mee sup KB , since it can be found in every stall or restaurants in here.
Quick quiz : How to know that person was from KOTA BELUD ?
Simples, they will high probility ask for fried onions when order any kind of soup and it was true for me . Even i was eating SOTO or noodles that was originally well known from Indonesia , i ll ask for fried onions and mix it with chilli and ketchup . The good stall will fried it proccess the onions themselves and fried it for their customer because the taste will 100% different from the friend onion that being bought from the market.
One more thing , the cold water is also free here . It was a self services where you can get the bottle fill with cold water or chinese tea from the refrigerator.
Here comes the foods , yeah . Well , its still taste like how i remembers . I hope it ll not be change due times at least as long as i still on earth . :p. This not only satisfy my craving but also remind the old of us and the story that i ll keep telling to my kids in futures.
The prices of course getting higher but not as expensive as the other dishes at other places. It still affortables which only cost RM 8 or around SG 2.50 .
Thanks for food hunting with me . See you in another life journeys. Cheers.
Remember the last time you went to a fancy restaurant based on a review and you did not like the food there at all? and this time you have come to a simple-looking restaurant and you liked the food here very much. There is a saying about this in Hindi that ऊँची दूकान, फीके पकवान meaning The Higher (Fancy) the shop, the duller the food. Some people focus only on looking good while some people are more focused on the quality of their food. :P
And yess the answer of your quiz is: Their logo above the entry wall of the shop reads 'Kota Belud'
