Primeramente decirles que Sancti Spiritus se encuentra ubicado en el centro de Cuba, es una de las siete primeras villas fundadas en la etapa Colonial, por ende, la tradición, historia, arquitectura y cultura son muy variadas y hermosas. Muchos turistas vienen de varias partes del mundo a conocer las calles, la forma de vivir del cubano, las playas, comida, y demás atracciones que la isla, y principalmente el centro de Cuba, pueden ofrecerles para su disfrute. Entonces.... ahí les va.

Recorriendo el casco historico de Sancti Spiritus, nos podemos percatar a simple vista de algo único que caracteriza a la ciudad, el parque Serafín Sánchez Valdivia, su nombre debido a uno de los mártires de las guerras de independencia cubana. El parque alberga todo tipo de bellos momentos, cultura, tradiciones, nostalgia, historia, magia, que lo convierte así en el punto principal a visitar por extranjeros y nacionales. En el se realizan actividades culturales, deportivas, carnavales, días festivos, además de contener en el la gran mayoría de las tiendas(Shoping), ubicadas a su alrededor.

Walking through the historic center of Sancti Spiritus, we can see with the naked eye something unique that characterizes the city, the Serafín Sánchez Valdivia park, its name due to one of the martyrs of the Cuban independence wars. Seguimos Recorriendo la ciudad y nos encontramos con el elemento que describe perfectamente y pone en alto a todo el centro del país, la Iglesia Mayor espirituana, sitio que alberga a la iglesia católica, donde en ella esta ubicado uno de los miradores de la ciudad, y que por sus características ha sido participe de miles de fotografías que han recorrido el mundo. Un dato curioso que les quiero brindar, es que hace aproximadamente 10 años el parque se encontraba en reparación y se hicieron hayazgos arqueológicos que unían subterraneamente a la iglesia con dicho parque, esto trajo varias polémicas porque se decían que esos túneles eran utilizados para extraer cuerpos de cadáveres de la iglesia, otros afirmaban que eran túneles de escape, y muchos lo vinculaban con minería mucho más antiguas que la iglesia, lo que suponía que habría una construcción o ciudad poe debajo de las calles espirituanas. Actualmente se puede apreciar desde el parque esta tipo de descubrimientos ya que quedaron expuestos al público en general.

A curious piece of information that I want to give you, is that approximately 10 years ago the park was under repair and archaeological findings were made that linked the church underground with said park, this brought about several controversies because it was said that these tunnels were used to extract bodies of corpses from the church, others claimed that they were escape tunnels, and many linked it to mining much older than the church, which meant that there would be a construction or city below the streets of Spirit. Currently, these types of discoveries can be seen from the park since they were exposed to the general public.

La iglesia contaba con dos campañas, una grande, que era para los avisos religiosos, ya fuera para fechas importantes y una pequeña que indicaba la el horario, por lo que a cada hora se tocaba la cantidad de campanadas correspondientes, la campana media aproximadamente 0.75cm de altura, lo que la hace muy pesada y con mucha acústica en su sonido, lo que hacía que toda la ciudad pudiese escuchar sus campanadas. En una restauración de la iglesia, las oficinas de Patrimonio decidieron bajar la campana grande, y a su vez colocarla en el hostal del Rijo como patrimonio de la ciudad.

Calles empedradas y estrechas revisten el contorno y centro citadino, algunas aun en su estado original, las calles de piedra, como todos les llamamos, estaban destinadas a los carros tirados por caballos, los que abastecian de provisiones alimenticias, y de orden principal a la ciudad, muchas de ellas conservadas aún por las oficinas del historiador para no dañar la imagen internacional de la etapa Colonial en Cuba, adyacentes a estas calles se construyeron discotecas, centros recreativos nocturnos, el Malecón espirituano, Restaurantes, y otros sitios de interés.

Narrow cobblestone streets line the city center and outline, some still in their original state, the stone streets, as we all call them, were intended for horse-drawn carriages, those that supplied food supplies, and of main order to the city, many of them still preserved by the historian's offices so as not to damage the international image of the Colonial stage in Cuba, discos, night-time recreational centers, the Malecón, restaurants, and other places of interest were built adjacent to these streets.

Uno de los sitios más visitados por el turismo nacional y extranjero es La Taberna espirituana, donde se exhiben tragos nacionales e internacionales como el Mojito, Dayquiri, Cubanito, la Canchanchara, y como su nombre lo indica la variedad de vinos de alta y media calidad, acompañados de los jamones más degustados a nivel mundial, la hacen inigualable al resto del país, en ella se exhiben las banderas de las naciones que más han recorrido el sitio, donde el arte culinario, y el explendor cultural se ponen de manifiesto.

Para concluir, el famoso Puente Yayabo, a quien hice alusión en una de mis publicaciones pasadas, pero esta vez lo vinculare al museo de Arte Colonial, quienes sus dueños pasados, la familia Valle Iznaga, fue parte importante en la creación, restauración y mantenimiento de estas grandes construcciones. El museo alberga piezas de la época, de la riqueza inigualable de la familia, de su monarquía en la época de su tradición cultural.
