Playing With Light - Art Museum in Enschede
Recently I visited Enschede, a small town in Holland
It's a very lovely town near to the German border. But this post is not about the city itself, but rather the art museum I visited there. It happened by chance when I saw the museum from the outside and got intrigued by some of the items the shop inside it had for sale. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that the museum was totally free of charge. So I had a look...
The museum itself is not very big and can be easily missed. But it's definitely worth a look!
One of the themes of the museum was light. I hadn't seen this kind of art before and it's rather stunning. Take this piece as an example: when you enter the room you probably don't think much about it. In fact, before I saw the projection I thought there was "trash" lying around in the room. But then I started putting the pieces together: the plastic foil and the mirrors projected this realistic shadow onto the blue wall. A mountain! and... a window frame? How can a plastic foil placed so haphazardly on the ground create such a realistic picture of a mountain? Fascinating...
But there was more...
The other displays were even more stunning. A light from the ground illuminated a glass plate on which some colorful foil was placed to create.... this!
This is absolutely mesmerizing to watch. I inspected the plate in more detail and it was just a foil. Well, foils placed in such an array that it created this landscape. But there was another image on the bottom: the reflection from the foil created this water like effect which was bathed in beautiful colorful display.
Here is another example:
I really love the bottom reflections for this piece:
And then came the masterpiece (at least in terms of detail). This time instead of foil some powder, plastic, shell and some metal as well as a nail were used to produce this stunning image:
So much detail! It looks completely realistic - the house, the bridge and tunnel (?) as well as the fences and the vegetation on the hill in the background... A pure masterpiece.
This is an extremely creative display of art in my opinion. I even want to try it out for myself... what do you think?

I think it's really cool! What a curious art form! They must take a very long time to get right. I have no idea how they do that! Were these all by different artists?
I think it was only one, but I forgot to check!
