Beautiful Slovenia – a journey to hidden treasures

Let me take you on a little trip to a place that still lives in my heart—River Soča in Slovenia. It’s been a few years since I was there, but guess what? I just found some old photos on my phone I never used, and now I HAVE to tell you about it again. This place is pure magic! If you ever get the chance, pack your bags and go. You’ll thank me later!

The adventure started when my pregnant friend wanted one last fun trip before her baby arrived. So, we grabbed her boyfriend and off we went to explore the amazing Soča region. I had been here once before, back when I was 18, but on a heavy metal festival! Not the best time to explore the pretty spots, right? Let’s just say I was more into loud music than nature. This time, I could finally soak in the beauty of the place...and wow, it was worth it.

We visited Virje Waterfall. Oh, what a beauty! The water falls from 20 meters high, coming straight from underground springs in the Kanin Mountains. The pool below? It’s the color of emeralds and surrounded by moss-covered rocks. It’s the kind of place you think only exists in movies. Fun fact… the water is ALWAYS freezing, around 5.5°C (yes, that cold!). We bravely dipped our toes in, and by "bravely," I mean we lasted five seconds before squealing in pain. Still, we laughed so hard, especially when I slipped and almost fell in. Nothing new by me...

Not far from the waterfall, we found Plužensko Lake. This peaceful reservoir is fed by a cold mountain stream, and yes, it’s just as icy. But the views? Amazing. It felt like time stopped, and all that mattered was how beautiful everything looked.

Now, let me tell you about Tolmin Gorge. If you love exploring, this is the place to be. The gorge is like a hidden world with steep cliffs, crystal-clear water, and little paths that make you feel like an adventurer. The air is cool, and you can hear the gentle sound of the river below. It’s the perfect spot to slow down and just enjoy nature.

The best part? The Devil’s Bridge. This incredible bridge is set 60 meters high above the Tolminka River, and crossing it is both thrilling and a little scary. Looking down, you see the river cutting through the gorge like a ribbon of turquoise. I remember standing there, holding onto the rail, and thinking that this is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen.

Oh, and here’s something fun to know—scenes from The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian were filmed on the Soča rapids. It’s no wonder they chose this place, it’s like stepping into a fantasy world.

This trip was all about enjoying nature, having fun, and creating memories I’ll never forget. Between the laughter, the icy water, and the stunning views, every moment felt special. I don’t know when I’ll get to visit this place again, but Soča will always stay in my heart. If you ever go, promise me you’ll send me pictures!
