A love letter to dogs - the magic of unconditional love

This article is for all the animal lovers out there, especially those who can't imagine life without dogs! Yesterday was International Dog Day, and as I scrolled through my photos, I realized that half of them are of dogs or other animals. If you've followed my journey on Hive, you've probably seen that I’ve written a lot about animals, especially about my dog, Baou.

Baou came into my life and made everything brighter and more interesting. Every morning, she wakes me up, ready for her walk. When I come home, she looks at me with those big, beautiful eyes, begging for treats. And at night, she claims my pillow as her own, refusing to budge. I don’t have the heart to move her, so we share it. My husband just laughs at the whole situation. Yes, our apartment, clothes, and car are all covered in dog hair, but honestly, I don’t mind. I just clean a bit more, but it’s so worth it for Baou. She's almost 12 years old now, and sometimes it breaks my heart to think about how short a dog's life is.

One thing I quickly realized is that I could never pay for a dog. There are so many animals out there without homes, so many abandoned dogs wandering the streets. It makes me cry to think of how many people buy dogs, only to give them up when they realize they can’t take care of them. I’ve seen it too many times—people get a dog, then have kids, and suddenly the dog is no longer a priority. How can they do that? In my opinion, there’s nothing better than a child growing up with a dog by their side. Dogs love children, and they’re the best playmates and protectors. If I had more space, I’d have more dogs in a heartbeat. My husband and I decided long ago that we would never buy a dog, we’ll always adopt, whether it’s a puppy or an older dog. I love mixed-breed dogs, they’re my favorite! Sure, purebreds are beautiful, but I stand by our decision to adopt.

Once, I wrote about a dog my friend found in Serbia. This dog had been used for dog fighting, and her story really touched me. It made me even more aware of how some people don’t value animals. This dog, Mini, was one of the friendliest dogs I’ve ever met. She didn’t get along with other dogs because of her past, but she was so gentle and loving with people. Whenever I visited, she’d cuddle up to me. Though she’s no longer with us, I’ll always cherish my memories of her.

Now, let’s talk a little about the history of dogs. Dogs have an incredible history that stretches back thousands of years. It all started with wolves hanging around human camps, probably looking for food. Over time, these wolves formed a bond with humans and gradually evolved into the dogs we know and love today. It’s amazing to think that our loyal pets came from wild animals, but through centuries of living with humans, they’ve become our best friends.

I love dogs so much because they’re more than just pets, they’re family. Their loyalty, love, and understanding are truly special. When I look into a dog’s eyes, I see a creature that has stood by our side through thick and thin. They’ve evolved to be in tune with our emotions, always ready to comfort us when we’re sad or celebrate with us when we’re happy.

Dogs aren’t just animals, they’re companions who make life better. Their history with us is a story of friendship and love, and that’s why they hold such a special place in my heart.

To wrap it all up, I just want to say that dogs bring so much joy, love, and magic into our lives. They teach us what it means to love unconditionally, to be loyal, and to find happiness in the simplest things. Dogs remind us every day of how beautiful life can be when shared with a true friend. So, here’s to all the dogs out there, and the love they give so freely. Our lives are richer because of them.
