Although international cat day was officially a few days ago, August 8th to be precise, all cat owners know very well that every day is caturday!

Cats in need everywhere

I haven't spoken to my friend who we met through fostering last year in months now. First of all because of her health issues but later because she keeps getting calls for cats or dogs in need and dedicates her whole life to these creatures that need a guardian angel. Week in week out she's feeding the babies by hand every few hours day and night, often they make it but some don't.

She's an angel to these animals for doing so because she's single and I already found it challenging doing this as a family last year. I didn't even have to get up every 2 hours to feed the tiniest of the babies like she is. Not only does she have a bunch of cats herself (she's the best cat lady of those that exist) but recently she had four pups, a bunch of very young and scared kittens as well as an older one on top of that to take care of.

It also means she's totally overwhelmed and barely available to chat, which I get because we had a little taste of this adventure ourselves last year. It made me check some FB groups to see the current status and it's horrifying seeing all these creatures dumped on the street, left to die without any food or water. I cried watching the calls for help. Yet, this year, I can't offer to foster because I have to recover fully myself first to be able to do so.

Not looking away

If I see a cat in need on the streets, I'd still help though, I always give some food or water when this happens but in our area, you can see the cats are being well taken care off every day. We see the same ladies making rounds and the cats look healthy and some are quite social as well and in for some petting too. I can't say I'm sad that this area is a bit better because in the other home, at some point we had 10 cats coming to our window for food and water every day, lol. This is not possible living where we live now.

Two kittens in the garden

Our community garden does have two new kittens though. The momma cat is quite similar to Mojo, our first cat we rescued in Spain. She has two kittens, one black with brown (very scared) kitten and a ginger tabby one, which is the cutest of the both and not that scared when we check them out. Momma cat is very smart keeping her kittens within a hedge and gate separating two community buildings from each other but not next to the road.

We heard meowing for the first time a few weeks ago when we left the pool and it was not until 1 or 1,5 weeks ago that we saw the family for the first time. I keep checking if they look healthy (so far so good) and I assume the mother cat is one of these that is being fed and checked by the organisation here in our area. As they have not come close, I don't have any picture worth sharing because they are all blurry and taking through a gate. Maybe in a few weeks, they come a bit closer..

My favourite neighbourhood cat noticed I took a picture.. he went back to sleep right after.. He's a charmer and I love how he used this tree to take a nap!

Until then, you will have to do with the two pictures of the most friendly cat in our street. He's always looking towards us when he sees us, giving a few head bumps. Now that I think about it, I promised to bring a few treats next time, so I will put them in the bag for later.. He probably remembers I promised that last week..
