From Redwood Dreams to Desert Reverence - US Tour week 2
Hivers!
After the electric energy of our first week, we found ourselves rooted in something beautifully rare: our first-ever official show in Santa Cruz. It felt like a true homecoming celebration. The night overflowed with emotion as we reunited with friends we hadn’t seen in over six years—and welcomed new ones we had only just met in Yosemite a few days before. That venue was pulsing with love, laughter, and music. It was another Beautiful highlight of this tour.
Our dear friends Kathy and James—pillars of our chosen Troublemaker family—took us under their wings for a magical few days of exploration. They led us through the towering majesty of the Redwoods, where we couldn't help ourselves but film a Little Video below These gentle Giants. The old Santa Cruz pier was another highlight, where ocean mist carried the scent of memory and momentum. These moments wove themselves into the deeper fabric of our California adventure.
From the coastal calm, we descended into the surreal world of Joshua Tree. There’s something mythic about this desert—dreamers and outlaws, cosmic energy and creative rebellion. We had planned to perform at Furstwurld, a venue unlike any other, but were heartbroken to learn that Bobby Furst—its visionary founder and artistic soul—had fallen gravely ill. The show was cancelled. Just one day later, Bobby passed away.
Bobby was more than a presenter. He was a movement. A maker of space. A cultivator of culture. Through his tireless, often invisible work, he transformed Joshua Tree into a fertile landscape for artists and misfits. Furstwurld wasn’t just a venue—it was his legacy, his “wow” philosophy manifested in steel and soul. Its mission says it best:
“Furstwurld is dedicated to working in partnership with community and like-minded organizations to strengthen awareness, accessibility and deeper appreciation of art, ideas and cultures.”
In Bobby’s honor, we gathered under the stars at Ghost Tree Ranch, welcomed by the incomparable Billy Savage. There, amidst the vast quiet of the desert and a chorus of coyotes, we celebrated Bobby’s life with music, stories, and silence. Joshua Tree, with its vast skies and endless heart, left an indelible mark on us. We wrote new music there. We dreamed wide awake.
From one desert to another, we continued on to Golden Valley, Arizona, where we spent three blistering days (40°C / 110°F!) with the legendary Bill Walsh.
Golden Valley was like another planet—brutal and beautiful. We explored insane landscapes, capturing video footage and letting the sun-scorched earth inspire a different kind of intensity in our sound.
And now after nearly another 800 miles through beautiful landscapes and Monument Valley - we’ve arrived in Colorado, where the air is slightly cooler, but our hearts are still burning bright. We've landed in Denver for a run of shows, including one at the Indian Hot Springs. Yesterday, we had the fun of joining Colorado & Company for a morning TV performance—our second TV appearance of the tour! Later, we spontaneously busked in the streets of Denver, reigniting our street-band roots and catching the curiosity of a whole new audience.
This weekend, we’re also joined by Marelle, Bennet’s sister, who will be with us for the next few days of the adventure. Family, friends, and the road—that’s what this week has been about.
As the miles pass beneath our wheels, the memories multiply.
This tour is more than concerts—it’s reconnection, remembrance, and rediscovery. Thank you, dear Troublemakers, for journeying with us. Your support breathes life into every note we play and every story we tell.
Those are some iconic locations. They have some big open spaces over there. I did a little road trip in California, Arizona and Nevada a few years back and saw a bit of desert with the big cacti. I'm sure it will inspire you to make more music.
!BEER
