Ever-growing Community. A shared experience can pull someone back from the edge of loneliness. It can remind you: you are not alone.
In times like these, it’s easy to feel isolated even when you’re “connected.” Screens give us contact, but it’s literally on the surface. And so many people are walking around quietly hungry for the simplest human thing: a place where they’re welcomed without having to prove they deserve it. That’s why festivals matter. Not just as events, but as Communal ecosystems.
In dozens of places like Elfia, Echos et Merveilles, Archeon Midwinter Fair, Tanzt Munich, Innsbruck, Green Gathering, Western North Carolina, Viroqua and Northern Wisconsin.… We watched community being built in real time: volunteers holding the heart of the space, crews keeping it safe, artists supporting artists, audiences looking out for each other like it mattered.
It brings tears to our eyes when we think about these communities and the way we felt in just being a part of them.
And because this sense of belonging means so much to us, we created something that’s become one of the most emotional highlights of our year: the Bard’s Theater.
What started as a tiny seed became a full-grown ritual. Bardeoke. Improv theater. The Bard’s Corner. A space where the “audience” stops being an audience and becomes the story with us.
Yes, we love the big stages, the wild crowds, the cinematic moments… but there is a different kind of magic when someone steps forward, hands shaking, voice trembling, and then chooses bravery.
We watched you do that.
We watched stage fright melt into laughter. We watched people sing who never thought they could. We watched strangers cheer like family. And in those moments, you could feel it: safe. seen. welcomed.
Here’s what we learned, and what we think festivals can take even further:
When you create spaces that invite participation, you don’t just “put on a show”… you build a tribe. You give people a role, not a seat. You turn a weekend into a memory that follows someone home and whispers, “You belong somewhere.” So Viva Community! Viva the volunteers. Viva every brave voice that stepped into the light. And viva the Bard’s Theater. We couldn’t imagine what next year would be without you 💚

If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years
So I've dealt with people like this before it's nothing new
But what they are doing is bad Very badi joined steemit like everyone else thinking it offers freedom but I must say steemit offered much more freedom than Hive does
Everyone already knows I only post my own original content I have no need to steal anything from anyone

If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years
So I've dealt with people like this before it's nothing new
But what they are doing is bad Very badi joined steemit like everyone else thinking it offers freedom but I must say steemit offered much more freedom than Hive does
Everyone already knows I only post my own original content I have no need to steal anything from anyone
I've been labelled a lot of things on Hive 😂 by the biggest farmers scammers and downvoters
Actions speak louder than any words do especially when them words are coming from a compolsive liars

Yesterday I was watching a YT video, someone explaining why birthrates are going down, the increase of people not finding a partner, and evn when they do, deciding not to have kids. His main point: screens and individualism. People are deciding to get everything on demand, based on 100% control. Instead of bedroom, mastrubation. Sounded all very depressing. Although I also see these trends already for quite some time. We also see more and more we turn to the Internet for our social contacts. Not all that bad, but in the end, we spend less time on IRL contacts. We do not know our neighbours. Something we see in cities already for a ling time, but this seems to happen in villages more and more as well. While previously, a feature of a village was the fact everybody knew eachother, these days city folks move to villages for different reasons, but stay away from the rest of the village, continuing behaving as if they live in a city.
Bars, clubs and festivals are the places where we can still feel part of a community! Especially those types of festivals you talk about in your post, where anyone can pick up a mic, where social contact is part of the concept. How cool Bard's Corner is created and successful.

Yea this is all spot on. We've noticed the same trends. Many people are feeling more and more isolated. It's turning up in the data everywhere. Loads of venues/bars struggling to get people in the door, and places that were once the cornerstone of a healthy village are starting to shut down completely.
