Wednesday Walk - Exploring Plovdiv
One of my favorite communities to visit is Wednesday walk ( #wednesdaywalk brainchild of @tatoodjay) ... permitting me to see other parts of the world through the eyes and camera lens of other Hivians.
Recently we spent the day walking around Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Join me on the outing and read a small bit about Plovdiv, courtesy of chatGTP.
Sitting halfway up Youth Hill looking out over the old city
Plovdiv is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, with a history dating back over 8,000 years. The city was initially settled by the Thracians and later became a strategic center for the Roman Empire. In the Middle Ages, it was ruled by the Bulgarians and later by the Ottoman Empire, which heavily influenced the city's culture and architecture.
In the 19th century, Plovdiv became an important cultural and economic center during the Bulgarian National Revival, which led to the construction of many beautiful buildings and houses in the city's old town. The city played an essential role in Bulgaria's struggle for independence, and after World War II, it became a vital industrial center.
Today, Plovdiv is a vibrant and modern city with a rich history and cultural heritage, and it was named the European Capital of Culture in 2019. The city's old town, with its picturesque cobblestone streets, colorful houses, and ancient ruins, is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from all over the world.

We eschewed the option of grub at the pub and bought the street food which was rather good value..... I just wish that it had had a bit more seasoning !!
Subway under the main road
That is enough for now.... I have stacks of pics from the new city and the excavations of the Roman ruins... but to be honest it could be photo's taken just about any city in Europe.
Thanks for stopping by, stay safe, stay free and love the one you with !!
Wednesday became Sunday with you. Perrrrrrfect! That basically means, you are not connected with time, calendar, days anymore. A step towards total happiness 😉
In the meantime am getting a bit confused. Wasn't I reading about walking with the dogs? In your previous post? Combining this with going home for a little while I read a long time ago; Total confusion at my end 😆 Did he (they) go home and are back already? Are they at home at the moment? Did they bring the dogs with them to Europe? Or maybe just random, local dogs getting chaperoned?
Anyways, wish you and your wife (and the dogs) a great day! 😉
{sighhhhhh} .... we are pet sitting 2 dogs and 2 cats whilst their masters are in America. We duly walked the dogs in the morning... then walked into Plovdiv and explored then caught a bus home.
I am Bulgarian'ed out ... we fly back to Italy on Thursday happily. I can then get this expanding body back into gym, drink decent wine and eat beautiful cheeses and salami's and all those REALLY healthy foods.
Looks like you are starting to like Italy very much, though you don't master the language from A to Z. superrrrrr healthy 🍷 🧀 🥩 🍖 🥂 😆😆😆 NJOY! and have fun in Bulgaria. Owww once I was soooooo drunk when in Sofia, one of those super rare occasions I blacked out for a little time.
Looks like a very old and quaint little part of town you're in, is the entire place like that or just some of it?
Seen one European city seen 'em all eh XD Post them anyway for those of us that don't travel? :D
It is a big sprawling city ... built around the old town.
Seen one European city seen 'em all eh XD Post them anyway for those of us that don't travel? :D
I meant the cleared roman ruins under modern buildings ... the digs... all look the same. As this city is 8000 years old there are cities built on cities built on cities
an example just for you {smile}
There were architectural types so I guess the digs would look similar/the same. Cities on cities on cities makes sense when it's that old O_O walking through it sounds like an experience.
Oh, so Plovdiv? I knew I was missing some news and updates from your adventure. 😉
I have been slack I admit {embarrassed blush}
Such a great walked ,exploring and showcase that beautiful place😍Happy wednesday and keep safe
